A/N: Hello everyone, I'm not dead. I finally had the time to post and it's been months. My summer is going to be hella busy so I'll try and update when I can.

But here is the first chapter of Worse Than Death's sequel, Fates Worse Than Death. So if you haven't read that, I suggest you do, just to understand a bit more of the plot. Because this, from here on in, is an AU. This will follow parts of the cannon, but mainly, an AU.

Also, the Hamato Clan are all human. Karai/Miwa is a mutant hybrid, April is still half Kraang (though that doesn't really matter), the Foot Clan still has it's mutants, but I don't refer to them as Fishface or Bebop till later. Although Tiger Claw is the only exception.

I apologize for any grammar mistakes I missed and I don't own anything.

She felt two fingers press her forehead, which to her, seemed like she had been hit by a semi-truck. The stress brought to her head caused her to transform back into her human form. Her tail quickly retracted, which her legs took its place. Karai's outstretched arms flew back to the black long sleeves that covered her skin, and the scales from her body seemed to disappear, although the shade of sickly white she was almost matched the color of her scales. A soft groan came from her lips as she bent down for her weapon. She picked it up, but the second she lifted her head up, the world seemed to dramatically tilt. As the kunoichi swayed in place, a whimper of pain accidentally escaped her, and she snapped her eyes shut and slightly hung her head down in attempts to let the pain wash over. The loud noises around her became disoriented, almost like overlapping radio station. Her breathing became increasing rapid, and she let out a soft exhale and opened her eyes to find that the ground beneath her seem to move again and the world was beginning to look like a blob of colors. She took a step backward, hoping to find a sense of balance. Her breaths quickly evened out, and she lifted her head up, to shake whatever else was affecting her. However, Karai could focus on two things at that moment. The blurry man in front of her, and the slumped figure on the floor whom she couldn't make out. A split-second later, her attention was on the painful ringing in her ear, and the increasing pounding in her head. Karai threw her hands to her face with another whimper, dropping the tanto blade she forgot she was holding. The sound of the metal hitting the floor caused the pounding and the ringing stop. She dropped her hands with a shaking breath and looked down at her blade and gave it a questioning look as it was stained with a deep red.

"Miwa…" The man in front of her spoke with a comforting but sorrowful tone. She ignored him and tried to recall why her sword was covered in blood as she stared it blankly, waiting for it to give her an answer.

"Miwa."

The kunoichi snapped her head up to correct him, but as soon as her amber eyes met his brown ones, she was hit by a tidal wave. Karai's breath once again became rapid gasps as it all attempted to come flooding back, and she lowered her gaze to avoid the man in front of her.

"Oh God... no," She gasped as she tried to get air in her lungs again. Karai desperately tried to focus on anything but the man and the memories she was fighting to keep her head clear of. However, she felt herself being drawn back at the blade. Her amber eyes locked onto it as if it held answers, putting her into a trancelike state, which caused her breathing to return to normal.

"Miwa!" The man exclaimed and without warning, the ringing in her ears returned and sharp pain in her head became increasingly agonizing to suffer with. This time, she felt the ground sway again, and her vision blur and tunnel. A cry escaped her, and she once again threw her hands up to her head, in attempts to calm the storm of pain inside her. And as panic and fear flooded her emotions, she began breathing as if the life was being choked out of her. Something was fighting her back.

She heard a young male voice she couldn't place echo in her head. "Com'on, we're almost home."

"I can't," Another voice responded that sounded similar to hers.

"What happened wasn't your fault. That was all Shredder's doing. He used you. It might take a while, but we will forgive you. You're family."

The kunoichi felt her heart twist and wanted to vomit. What type of trick was this?

"Stop it!" Karai screamed in between gasps.

"I can't go home, Leo. I'm sorry."

That was his name. Leo… she didn't know why, but that name held meaning to her.

"Why not?"

"My mission isn't completed yet."

She felt something move inside her head which felt as if daggers were being dragged across her brain.

She cried, "Shut up!"

"He cares about you! We all do."

"Stop lying to me."

"Stop lying to yourself! You had to poison everyone you care about! Why would you follow Shredder's orders to do something like that?"

"It wasn't Shredder's orders, Leo. How would Shredder know everyone's weak spots if I never told him? How to press every little button that would accomplish the mission?"

The kunoichi tried to hold her tears back. She felt the pain of Leo. She knew she had done something horrible.

She whispered to nothing, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." The teen then angrily shouted, "Make it stop! I'm sorry!"

Her memory didn't let up.

"How could you?"

"It wasn't personal, Leo. It was my mission…"

"The hell it wasn't personal! Why? Why aren't you attacking me now? You've taken every opportunity to do so, why stop now?"

"I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't mean it." She shook her head violently, "Just make it stop!"

"Why did you tell me all of this now?"

"To let you know this is only the start. Also… I wanted you to make sure you understand that I'm not your sister or your friend anymore."

"Shut up!" She screamed as she tried to tune her flashbacks out. The kunoichi stumbled backward, as her knees began to shake, and then quickly snapped her eyes shut. Karai continued trying to gain balance as she stepped back, trying to get away as soon as possible until she tripped over the side of the platform and fell backward with a scream, which snapped her eyes open. To her surprise, she never hit the water. All of her pain washed away, and quicks breath of adrenaline quickly evened out. She looked down at the water beneath her in fear, then up at the man who was now clear, and she recognized him. Hamato Yoshi. Her enemy, her target… her father. He held her wrist in a tight grip.

"Hold, on Miwa." He said in a strained voice as he attempted to pull her up, but was significantly weakened from the fight, "Don't let go."

She smiled up at him, but then saw past him. A redhead… April, which had caused her so much emotional pain, was on the ground in tears, holding a bloodied body. She focused her eyes on the figure, and her heart dropped.

"Oh my God," The kunoichi paled and finally, she let her walls down. Memories of what happened months ago flashed in her head. The night she almost killed them all. She remembered attacking April and Casey, luring all her brothers into a trap, and all of it was to kill her father. Extreme guilt clouded her mind, and she felt her eyes water. She couldn't go back. Not after what she did.

Flashback

Miwa let out an aggravated huff as she stared at the cup of tea in her hands. It wasn't even four in the morning and here she was, hiding in the kitchen sitting at the counter because of a nightmare. Nightmares and Miwa were old friends. She had them even before her brothers were born. The, "What if the Shredder find us? What if I die and can't protect anyone?" But ever since she began protecting New York with her brothers and caught the attention of Shredder, those "What if" seemed to become "When." "When will Shredder piece it together and come for us? When will I die at his hands and leave my brothers to pick up the pieces?" Even with all her self training to push those thoughts to the back of her mine, it was easy to fall victim to those thoughts when vulnerable. And tonight was no different except to add a new thought of "What if I'm not strong enough to save them?"

"Miwa?" A concerned voice said from the doorway of the kitchen.

Not looking up the girl shrugged as if she hadn't been shaken to the bone, "Hey, Donnie."

The inventor/scientist walked over and sat to the right of her with an understanding look. "Another nightmare?"

"Uh, yeah." Miwa sipped her tea as she avoided his gaze, "You?"

Donnie let out a soft sigh, "Yeah." He looked away from her, "What was yours about?"

"Nope." The kunoichi scoffed, "You go first."

Donnie looked up at her and responded with a playful scoff, "Fine." All playfulness left as he looked down at his hands, "We were stuck in T.C.R.I. and the building blew with us in it. Well, I don't even know how to explain how but when I woke up in my dream, we were in this apocalyptic future where the Foot ruled. We were dead... I think what scared me the most was that I felt like I wasn't seeing out of my eyes. It felt real."

"I hate it when that happens," Miwa huffed.

Donnie shook his head, "That wasn't even the worse part." He looked at her with a fearful gaze, "I saw a statue in the dream. The guys and I were dead at Shredder's feet. You... you were in his grasp with his blades through you. When I looked at it, I felt it. I felt his blades pierce my heart. I saw it happen to you."

"Relax, D." Miwa gave him a comforting smile and pulled him into a one armed hug, "No matter how real it feels, we wake up alive. I mean, we're all still here."

Donnie frowned, "I know that. Just the fact that the five of us either have nightmares of everyone dying or being responsible for the deaths of the others makes me feel uneasy."

Miwa sighed as she tightened her grip on her younger brother's shoulder, "Donnie, the threat of death was lurking around us before I could talk. It's the reason why we are so secretive about our lives, and why each of us only has like one or two friends because we were taught not to reveal secrets."

He gave her a sorrowful expression, "You're referring to Shredder."

She nodded her head, "Yeah."

"What was yours about?" He asked quickly changing the subject before he aggravated his sister.

Miwa sighed as she stared back at her tea and removed her arm from his shoulder, "Shredder killed you all as I watched. He killed our parents, you and our brothers, and our friends. He told me that you all hold me back and he did me a favor." She turned to face him with guilt written on her face, "I didn't even feel horrified or even sad. I felt numb. Like you all meant nothing to me." She shook the thought from her head and continued, "Shredder turned to me and asked me to join the Foot. Said he would take me past my limits, that I would be the greatest ninja in history. I refused. Then he said something that caught my interest... Shredder said that he would give me what Father couldn't."

Donnie raised an eyebrow, "And what was that?"

"I-I don't know," Miwa admitted as she hung her head down in shame knowing that the offer seemed very tempting. Donnie now understood why she considered it a nightmare... she wanted it. "It could've been many things, honestly."

Donnie looked at her in betrayal and shock, "Miwa!"

"I'm sorry, okay!" She clenched her fists at her side, "I don't know if it was my mind telling me something about my issues-"

Donnie immediately defended his crush, "April isn't-"

"Damare! Hanashimashou." Miwa snapped, "It doesn't have to do with April so relax, Donatello."

Donnie frowned at the harshness she used, knowing that his older sister meant business. "I'm sorry. Please continue."

"Look, I sat in bed for ten minutes trying to explain my nightmare. I didn't even bother trying to guess what the offer was. I just wanted to know what it was trying to tell me and I have two ideas," Miwa sighed as she ran a hand through her long bangs.

"Which is?" Donnie asked.

She huffed, "Either I seriously need therapy, or I have to be stronger."

"I don't think it's either of those," Donnie mumbled lightly.

Miwa ignored his mumble and scoffed, "I can't let Shredder win. I can't give him a weakness to hit."

Donnie shot his sister a look of confusion, "But-"

"Miwa? Donatello?" Someone asked from behind them. Both ninjas turned to the doorway of the kitchen where Tang Shen stood with a soft smile. "Nightmares?"

The two nodded their head and their mother walked over to the counter and took a seat on Miwa's other side.

"How much did you hear?" Miwa asked as she looked down at the cup.

Tang Shen gave her daughter a comforting grin, "How much are you willing to share?"

Miwa rolled her eyes, "You heard everything I said, didn't you?"

"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't," Her mother shrugged, "I don't see why that matters."

Donnie gave his sister a sly grin knowing the path she was going to try and put herself on would be very self-destructive, "Mi doesn't want to show weakness. She's worried Shredder, or really any enemy can use it against her."

"Donnie!" Miwa shouted at the betrayal.

Tang Shen let out a soft sigh, "Miwa." The teen turned to look at her and she continued, "Caring about others isn't a weakness. It's what makes you who you are. Your devotion to protecting those you care about is a strength most of your enemies don't have."

"And what if I lose it?" Miwa whispered as she looked back down, "What if I become that person in my dreams?"

"Miwa." Tang Shen smiled as she pulled her daughter in for a hug, "I know that someone as kind-hearted as you won't allow herself to even attempt to go down that path."

Donnie lightly nudged his sister's elbow causing her to turn her attention to him, "Besides..." He smirked, "You're too strong for that anyways."

Miwa scoffed in amusement as she pulled out of her mother's hug, "Okay enough about me please."

"You're the one who said she needed therapy," Donnie smirked.

Miwa shot him a look in response, "If you're going to use everything I say against me, I'm going to stop talking to you." She smirked at her brother, "And I think that after dreaming of an apocalyptic future, you need some reassuring too."

Donnie gave her one of his signature toothy grins, "If you say so."

She lightly punched his arm and then pulled him into a hug. Miwa gave her mother a smile as she tightened her grip on Donnie, "Thank you."

With a shaking breath, the kunoichi looked down at the water then back up to her real father with hopeless orbs of amber.

"I'm sorry," She sniffled.

His eyes widened, "Miwa-"

She stopped listening and knew that she hadn't done anything right since that night. That all of her suffering ahead, she deserved it. So, she did the only thing she could do that would benefit both.

"Father," She spoke with her voice breaking, "I'm truly sorry. Tell them all, I'm sorry and I love them."

"Miwa!" She heard April cry out, "Don't you dare let go!"

"Miwa, please," Her father begged. It didn't matter. Her mind was made up. She gave him a soft smile and let go of his hand. His grip tightened, but her hand slipped right through his, despite his best efforts. She saw his face twist up in agony, and the blur of April holding him back from suffering her fate. The last thing she heard as she fell, was the screams of agony and protest. She hit the water with a hard splash and lost all the air in her lungs for a split-second before a rush of harsh and murky water filled her senses as she went under. She felt the drain of the water pulling her with the current, the coldness of the water as her uniform stuck to her body, and the darkness that now clouded her vision.

"You were right, Shredder. There are always fates worse than death."

A Few Months Ago

The sound of a heavy bag hitting the floor echoed throughout the silent throne room. Shredder looked past his two henchmen and eyed the person standing in front of the entrance doors, ignoring how tense both Bradford and Tiger Claw looked.

"Nothing." The kunoichi spat as she stormed forward to the throne, "No trace of them, anywhere!"

Shredder let out a soft exhausted sigh. The extra juice he had Baxter add to the brain worm was having unintended effects. But after almost losing her to the Hamatos, Shredder wasn't taking any chances. So if aggression and frequent explosions were what he had to suffer through, it would be worth it.

"Karai." He continued, ignoring the fire in her eyes as she came closer, "Have patience."

Tiger Claw and Bradford stepped to the side as Karai walked past them and stopped at the bottom of the steps.

The teen let out a snarl, "I'll have patience when I get my results."

Shredder began harshly, "Karai-"

"I've checked for them everywhere!" Karai spat, "It's been weeks! I've looked at the places they hang out, their school, their friend's houses, and I even put cameras in every corner within a ten-mile radius of their house." The teen clenched her fists at her side, "They. Are. Gone!"

"Karai-" Shredder shouted.

"No, Father!" The kunoichi flared, "You should've let me kill them with my blade when I had them all in my hands. But you told me to break them. That was the plan. That was the mission. To break them. You didn't say to end them. You said that I wait until Hamato Yoshi came crawling for his pathetic sons!" Karai almost literally shot venom as her anger grew and her eyes changed to emerald snake eyes, "And now you don't want me to kill them. It seems like this next victory is pointless! We don't even have a solid plan!"

"Karai!" Tiger Claw snapped and drew the teen's attention to him, "Don't question Master Shredder's orders." The tiger mutant held his ground as Karai's emerald's narrowed at him, "You should know better."

"No, Tiger Claw. Karai has a point." Shredder stood up from his throne causing the three to look at him in confusion.

Bradford looked at Karai then back at Shredder, "I'm sorry... what?"

"Master Shredder?" Tiger Claw questioned.

"I told Karai to take the Hamato boys to bait Hamato Yoshi. Perhaps, it isn't Hamato's sons we need to hit," Shredder began.

Karai smirked and finished the thought, "Maybe we need to hit Hamato Yoshi himself. Just take my annoying brothers out of the picture."

"Push them to the side to achieve our goal," Bradford smiled catching on.

Tiger Claw grinned, "Then kill the brats when it's over."

"Well then..." Karai gave the two mutants and Shredder a sinister smile as her eyes flashed something wicked, "This is going to be one hell of a win. So let's get started."

Karai sat on top of the table sharpening another katana blade. Her motions were effortless, but her thoughts were busy cursing out the boxes full of blades that still needed to be sharpened.

I should've thought this through. These damn blades are a pain in my-

"Karai."

She rolled her eyes as she looked to Tiger Claw who was attaching the already sharpened swords to the contraption they had Baxter build. She was so ready to give her opinion on this trap idea. Although, in retrospect, perhaps she should have specified what "If you can build it you can do it," meant… mainly for time and her sanity. Her eyes narrowed and Tiger Claw sighed and waved his hand bracing for the outburst.

"I really hope this trap works." Karai said as she put the katana in her hands next to her with all the others and grabbed another blade to start sharpening, "Because this," She held up the blade, "Will be over thirty-six hours wasted if my buffoon of a brother somehow manages to break out."

The mutant raised an eyebrow, "That could be said for any one of the traps."

"You're joking. I had no idea." Karai scoffed, "Half of the traps aren't even finished. I still have to talk with Baxter about how we're supposed to make an oven without setting the whole thing on fire. And on how he is wiring Donatello's trap up. But you know, the gigantic toilet being dragged down into the sewers totally didn't take nine hours to travel seven miles."

"At least that was the worst of it," Tiger Claw shrugged.

"Don't even get me started on how many hours we're going to have to spend filling it up with the mutagen we're supposed to use, which we still have to pick up from the Kraang lab." The teen narrowed her eyes as she put her finished katana blade down, "They could've chosen a torture chamber or the electric chair-"

"Baxter claimed that one."

She literally hissed as she grabbed another blade, "Whatever."

"Your point?" Tiger Claw asked as he continued to work.

"They could've trapped him in a colorless room, or in a room full of squirrels." She slammed the katana next to her causing Tiger Claw to suppress his flinch at the unexpected outburst, "But no, they just had to use the biggest toilet in New York." Karai grabbed another blade and huffed, "I'm working with idiots!"

"How do you think I feel?" Tiger Claw smirked, "I only want to eat Xever to shut him up. And run over Zeck and Steranko, so they can no longer bring dishonor to the Foot Clan."

Karai smirked at Tiger Claw's confession, "Nothing on Bradford?"

"He's the only one I can tolerate."

"Besides you, that makes two of us." Karai rolled her eyes, "I swear, there are some days when I just want to kill everyone. The Kraang, the Hamatos, even the Foot on bad days."

Tiger Claw shot her a look, "Blinded by rage is the best way to lose."

"Oh, not because I'm angry. But mainly because there's nothing better to do," The teen smirked as her golden eyes showed a very slight tint of green.

"Just remember who the enemy is, Karai. It isn't-"

"Ugh!" The kunoichi groaned as she slammed the sword down next to her. "I hear the same lecture from Father three times a week, I don't need to hear it from you."

"Karai-" Tiger Claw threatened.

However, his threatening tone did nothing to suppress the next outburst.

Her blood boiled, "I don't work for you, Tiger Claw." Karai spat as her eyes turned green, and she hopped off the table, "Don't you dare forget who is in charge. You have no authority over me." She smirked as she walked closer to the mutant, "The only person I answer to is Shredder. And that's it." The kunoichi walked past him and to the door. As she opened it she shot him a mocked innocent grin, "Have fun sharpening the rest of the blades. I'm done."

Karai left and the door slammed behind her causing Tiger Claw to run his temples. The next few weeks were going to be very entertaining.

A/N: Yep. T.C you have no idea. I really felt like the show kinda left a huge plot bunny with Karai being mind-controlled because in one of the episodes Shredder is standing outside her "cell" as a machine is pumping more brain worms into her head, so I ditched that part and just had Shredder add more mind control stuff into the original worm. And all the chemicals inside her HAD to have SOME effects.

I also thought that in the original Fourfold Trap ep, that there had to be a whole lot of preparation. I mean they had a huge toilet in the sewers. I understand cartoon logic, but honestly, that had to have been a pain in the shell to get down there.

The bolded text like this in the chapter was actually dialog I had in the last chapter of WTD

The translation Miwa used in the flashback: "Shut up! Let me talk."

(If my translation is wrong, please feel free to correct me on it. I used Wordhippo.)

Also, I know I just posted my first chapter but I honestly have no idea when my next update will be up. I have so much going on in school that I haven't had the time to update. Hopefully, when school ends I can update a whole lot more. Because I really want to finish this story.

So thank you to all my viewers/reviewers.
