When Quinn wakes up the morning after her parents kick her out of the house, the last person she expects to see is Rachel Berry. She's there because of Finn. She has to be. Or so Quinn thinks until Rachel offers her a tentative smile.
"Finn and Carol went out. So, I um…I thought I'd stay here. In case you needed something," Rachel finishes awkwardly.
The past twenty-four hours have been like a nightmare. In just that long, she has become not only a liar, but homeless, too. It hurts in a way Quinn hadn't expected. She knows she can't keep this secret forever. Knows that Finn will find out eventually the truth. That he is not the father. But as long as Quinn can keep the mask in place, she will.
If she pretends her life is okay, maybe, it will be. Maybe, if she pretends Puck isn't the father. Maybe if she believes with her whole heart that she is Quinn and not Lucy. Maybe, if she imagines that yesterday didn't just happen. If she just puts on a brave face. It will make these things true.
"I'm sorry…" Rachel continues, and Quinn wishes she would just go away.
Instead, she puts a smile on her own face, struggling to sit up. "It's fine," she insists. "Everything is going to be just fine."
"Quinn… Have you… I mean, it's none of my business… But have you thought about what you're going to do?" Rachel wonders softly.
"Of course," she answers, and it's true. She's done nothing but think about it. She thinks about it until anxiety eats her alive. Her trying to raise a baby. She has no illusions. Knows that those teen mom shows aren't the answers to her problems she once thought they were.
She thinks of it, and then she buries it. Covering it the same way she covers everything.
With a smile.
