He saw them. No one else did, they made fun of him, but no one understood. Feliciano sat on the street curb, brandy eyes wide as he stared at the vacant house across the street.
"Feliciano, what the hell are you doing?" His elder brother half- growled at him, coming to stand behind him. At only thirteen, Lovino was already developing a masculine physique and had the mouth of a sailor.
"I can see them again, they're arguing there, and the ones over there want me to come with them." He first pointed at the vacant house, then at an empty patch of sidewalk. Lovino saw nobody at either spot, and sighed, looking at his brother in the thin moonlight.
"Feli, there's nobody fuckin' there." The elder said softly, crouching down to look in wide, hollow eyes.
"There is, you just can't see them." Feliciano's vice was barely above a whisper, and tears began pricking his eyes. Lovino looked at his brother with pity in his eyes.
"You should come inside Feli, if they're trying to lure you away then they're not nice." Lovino couldn't see these things but his brother was actively scared of them. Feliciano tried unfolding himself from his sitting position, whimpering with how stiff his joints were. His brother ended up carrying him inside, bridal style. The younger brother weighed next to nothing, his ribs jutting sharply through his thin nightshirt. He clung to his brother and looked back at the creatures.
They were fantastic, with glitters and wings and other strange features but there was something about their glowing skins and too sharp faces that scared him.
"Fratello? Can I sleep in your room tonight?" He was ten he shouldn't be afraid of being alone, but he was.
"Sure." Lovino said softly, kicking the door open with his foot.
"Just don't come back out here tonight."
