"You have a kind heart, Frank. Don't ever change, not for anyone."
The moment that those words left Nancy's lips, Frank couldn't help the small boyish smile that crept up on his lips. Nancy never ceases to surprise him. Just as he was about to sulk over the words that his father had said to him, Nancy gave him a reason to smile. She assured him that his judgment was fair. His judgment was right.
He couldn't promise her not to change, of course. He already changed – no, he was changing. Ever since that night in her house, he was changing. Ever since she pointed out his every flaw, he changed. He became more compassionate, more understanding of people. He became mindful of his actions. And he wanted Nancy to see that. He wanted Nancy to see that he was slowly becoming the person she wanted him to be. Because her opinion, it seemed, mattered to him.
That was not the only impact Nancy had in his life. Frank had always believed that he was not the best person he could be. He sometimes doubted his capabilities to be detective. But every time he doubted, Nancy proved him wrong. She made him believe that he will be a great detective. She made him believe that he was a good man. Even after she told him of every mistake he committed, she made it seem that he could still correct those mistakes. She made him believe that he will make the right judgments when he was a detective. That he will be the man that everyone will love.
Nancy was his redemption.
And one day, he will make sure that she will be by his side to see to it that he will become the man she saw him to be.
