Title: Acquired Taste
Drabble: #46
Rave's prompt: Ketchup
Randomly selected pairing: Daikari
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: Another pairing I've been wanting to explore for some time. Oh, and I've got kittens! They're so adorable.
Hikari grins whilst making a face which some might say carries hints of disgust, and asks Daisuke whether he'd like any chips with his ketchup.
He does it almost every time he eats anything, even if it's something like a sandwich or a curry; he'll cover his food in a thick layer of ketchup. Fortunately he doesn't go so far as to do it with cereal but, to someone like Hikari who can't stand tomato sauce with anything, this fact provides very little in the way of consolation. She had been thoroughly unprepared when Daisuke coated his Christmas dinner in ketchup the first time they had spent the holiday together.
She's used to it now, of course. But she can remember that, before they finally stopped beating about the bush and officially became an item, she had had no idea just how deep his attachment to the stuff was. She'd known he liked it, but only when they started eating together regularly did she realise that he liked it that much. Even so, being used to it doesn't change the fact that she hates it. There have even been a few petty squabbles between the two of them because of it; Hikari insists that when Daisuke eats so much of it his mouth tastes of it for ages, so she refuses to kiss him until the problem has been sorted.
He maintains that it's not his fault that ketchup tastes so nice. Hikari must just have warped taste buds or something, and there's nothing he can do about that. but there's nothing she, or anyone for that matter, can do to convince him that there is a single food in the world which doesn't taste better when it's got ketchup on it.
Besides, he says, tucking into his ketchup with chips, sporting a mocking grin identical to Hikari's as well as an affectionate smirk, at least he doesn't insist on having mayonnaise with everything he eats.
