Chapter One
Amber and James were restless. For the past couple of days, they felt trapped in their own castle. But they knew it was the fault of no one.
No one except for the mysterious sickness slowly draining their sister of her rosy color and the life she lived.
It was only after dinnertime days ago that Sofia started to fall ill. The twins thought it would pass and she would get better until their mother had caught it from taking care of her.
While Miranda was getting better day by day, Sofia was worsening, having Roland close the castle gates and banning the twins from going to school in fear of exposing what Sofia had to their classmates.
Amber knew she couldn't get upset with her sister, knowing that her sickness wasn't her fault as she and James placed on their masks.
The masks were so Sofia wouldn't get anymore germs in her systerm. But they weren't working like Baileywick thought they would. The twins never said a word of the masks not working though, not wanting to devastate the old man who was worried as they were for Sofia.
Sofia's room smelled of the usual products the royal doctor had tried to put in her body. Except for a new one that was more foul.
"I'm sorry," Sofia whispered, nearly in tears.
"Don't blame yourself Sof," James shushed, storking her hair. "You're trying to get better. You listen to the doctor and you drink what he gives you. But you were too weak this time to move and Violet didn't come in time to carry you so you could relive yourself."
"I liked the ice tub Mr. Cedric had put me in when I first got sick. You think I've been good enough for a ice tub?"
"I don't know Sofia."
"You're going to get more than a tub full of ice Sofia," Amber assured, taying not to choke as she kissed her sister's pale cheek. "You earned it."
"C-Can you and James stay with me? I-I don't want to be alone when I go."
"Of course we will. We haven't left you alone before and we're not going to start now."
