Witches and Demons:

Book of Lost Dreams

Prologue

1750 Port Royal, Jamaica

Fastening the line of the rowboat to the rickety and rotten dock, a middle aged black haired man climbed out of the boat and began his descend down the pier which lead to a wooden two story cabin stationed in the middle of the swap lands of the heavy wooded forests. Curling his bear fur coat around his quivering frame, the man his shaking hand to the door and rapped his knuckles on the harsh frame, which was suddenly creaked open; by a beautiful blonde haired woman dressed in a strapless, ragged, and brown dress.

"Yes?" the woman solicited peering through the tiny crack of the door at the man who wore a non readable grimace.

"Are you Maltida Lockrin keeper of wishes?" the man queried causing the woman to arch an eyebrow.

"I am." Maltida replied with a head nod "What do you have to offer me?"

Digging into the deep pockets of his coat, the man fished out a tiny brown sack tied loosely with a tiny string and jiggled it causing the coins inside to rattle loudly. "It's my family's entire lifesavings." he declared as Maltida snatched the sack away from him.

"In exchange for what?" Maltida solicited

"I want to be the richest man in the world." the man retorted with an assured tone.

"Very well." Maltida stated with a smirk as she stepped to the side thus allowing the man to venture into her home littered with black magic items including cauldrons, bones, snakes, frogs, and other various insects incased in concealed jars. "Take a seat." she instructed pointing to a wooden chair carved like a tree's branches reaching out towards the sky.

Once the man was seated at the cluttered and dusty table, Maltida dumped a massive and thick green book in front of the man. Removing a star shaped pendent which hung on a chain around her neck; Maltida positioned the pendent in the star shaped key hole on the cover of the book and twisted it open. Leering in response, she jerked open the cover resulting in a dark shadow of black to escape from the heavily paged object and fill the room.

"Now, I need you to sign the book with blood." Maltida affirmed seizing hold of the man's wrist and running the tip of the knife along the man's thumb resulting in him to wince in reply. "Waste not." she muttered tipping the man's hand over and watching in pure delight as the blood which dipped onto the paper dissolved into the book.

"Impossible." the man whispered his eyes expanding in disbelief as his full name magically on the paper.

"Your wish has been granted Thomas Green." Maltida proclaimed slamming the cover closed "Enjoy your life."

A swarm of furious villagers surrounded the swap land of Maltida's home among them was Thomas Green who clenched a illuminated grenade in his balled fist. "This is for the life of my wife and children you took." he snarled hurtling the deadly weapon into the broken window thus causing the cabin to exploded into a bundle of pieces.
