After Max returned the syringe to her, Liz didn't know what to do or say. She stood in the lab, conflicted about the power in her hands and Max's surrender of power. They had started the day angry and frustrated with each other over their reactions to the truths he revealed and they ended without the anger she needed as armor. What was she supposed to do with his acknowledgment of her being right, the information she knew about them, and the fatality of what the syringe in her hand could do? How could she avoid the rest of the stages of grief with what Max had, in essence, encouraged her to do?

On the ride back home, Max reviewed the state of his life and his family. He was, confused about the tattoo that, for some strange reason, Wyatt long had seen and could draw. Isobel took charge of what she knew and locked herself up with Kyle's help. Liz, rightfully, made a serum to protect herself and others from Isobel's potential threat. He pissed off Cameron because of what he couldn't tell her. Too many pieces were adding up and he found himself powerless in light of what he didn't or couldn't know. He would have to figure out a way to learn more about what was going on with Isobel and he would need Michael's help. Since Liz arrived, everything he thought was coming into question and, as much as he wanted to be angry about it, he had to admit that his dues were coming. Not knowing where he came from was putting everything he cared about and everything he wanted to stand for in danger.
