Lane: I want my friend to live.

Post Closing Scene

"Heard Jules had some things to say…" Ed knew he was baiting his friend, but he didn't care.

"She usually does."

"Just be glad I didn't get to you first."

Greg hid a smile. "Just when I think it couldn't get worse…"

Eddies expression changed as he brought the conversation to a halt.

Parker put his arms out at his sides. "Go ahead I can take it."

"Twice." He stated simply.

"Twice?"

"I heard you referred to as dead today." He softened his expression. "But ask me the number of times the thought ran across my mind and I wouldn't be able to tell ya."

"Eddie…"

"We always talk about the mission coming first…keeping the peace. But hell, today, I would've t started world war three to get you back…dead or alive."

"I know."

"Do you?"

He set his arms down. "I did what I thought was right. I had to make a call and I made it. We've all done it."

"Not like this."

"So what? Do you want me to apologize Eddie? I've spent ten years protecting her from the truth, and all of a sudden I'm supposed to flip the switch…I was dead either way. Rather die saving her than trying to save myself."

"Pretty heroic stuff. Would've made for a good eulogy at your funeral." He finally stepped inside the elevator.

"We both know you'd be blubbering like a baby anyway…"

Ed managed a smile. "Me? I'd be too busy consoling Wordy…"

Greg entered the elevator beside him. "Thanks for the tongue lashing."

"Oh, anytime."

And the two friends shared a quiet laugh as the elevator doors slowly closed…
