song suggestion: The Takers by Barcelona
Pairing: lucylorcan
She leaves him, and he's always known that it was going to happen eventually, because he still can't actually believe that she was his for that beautiful too-short time. A part of him feels like he's dying because he's always loved her and before she'd accepted him he hadn't known what it was like to be with her (and now that he knows, god, he can't just go back).
She leaves him a note, just a note, and it's cruel of her, but he loves it. All it says is sorry I might be back someday I still love you, and it's short and it explains nothing, but he reads that note over and over and over again because it gives him hope.
(He can't let her go just yet.)
He cancels his tour, and his career almost topples to the ground. His fans are heartbroken, his band mates are outraged, and his manager is ready to string him by his toes and he doesn't care. She's haunting him and he sees her everywhere and he doesn't want to perform ever again.
He wanders the flat in a stupor, his guitar never leaving his side. He sits down whenever the muse visits and writes about her, all the time, enough to fill a new album or two.
It doesn't matter, because she's not there to hear them. His fans wouldn't like them anyway. They're all about heartbreak and loss and blue eyes and frigid fraud girls who like to play pretend and girls who are beautiful when they cry.
He locks himself in the flat and no one can get in. Charlie, Rowan and Duke, his band mates, attempt to break down the door to his flat, because he's ruining their dreams too (and he knows it's selfish but he doesn't care anymore). Lysander stands outside his door and shouts about how she's not worth it and about how Lorcan should stop being so dumb, and he knows Ly's worried about him, but he's so tempted to open the door and punch his brother in the face (because, damn it, Lucy is worth it, she's worth all this pain and heartache and numbness).
His father tries to reason with him, the Potter-Weasley brood as well, all to no avail.
(she's the only one who'll get him to open this damn door)
He wakes up to the peaceful, cheerful sound of a ukulele in his flat, and he runs to his living room and there's his mother, sitting on the carpet, her legs crossed, strumming a ukulele as though she hadn't a care in the world.
He feels the heartache ease a little because his mother always understood him. Lysander was his father's son, and Lorcan had his mother's heart (it was often said). She's got a sunflower tucked behind her ear and she's humming in a very off key way. Lorcan sits next to her, his guitar in hand, and matches her pace, improvising.
"How are you Lorcan, love?"
He's very quiet, when he speaks; his voice comes out very hoarse, "She left me, mum."
Luna doesn't react with outrage or sympathy, she nods and continues to strum her ukulele, "Do you know why she left?"
"No."
Luna nods again, "Well, she loves you, obviously."
Lorcan shakes his head, because as much as his mother understands him, he doesn't understand his mother.
"I don't think so, mum."
Luna smiles, and abruptly halts her ukulele playing. She rises to her feet and dusts off her robes, "Well, Lorcan, I'm off, you have a visitor."
He should have known, because his mother's always been much wiser than anyone he's ever known. She apparates home, and there's a knock on his door, and a tentative voice asking if he'll let her in.
