My take on "the look", from both their perspectives. Enjoy.
Underworld and its related characters, etc. are the brilliant work of Wiseman, Grevioux, and McBride. Therefore, I own nothing but the DVDs and novels.

He walked into the dry shelter of the subway station, thankful to be out of the cold rain. Michael Corvin was lost in his private thoughts as he moved to the nearest train. He was thinking about the past, thinking of her. Samantha. Michael glanced up, and immediately locked eyes with someone else's. He didn't mean to stare, but he was entranced. She was darkly beautiful, with alabaster skin, and had a mysterious allure all her own. She was clothed in a trench coat and black leather, which was strange in itself. How could he have not noticed her? For the briefest eternity, the gaze was held hypnotically. His previous thoughts vanished. Through her soft brown eyes, he saw her guard drop. Michael saw sadness and also a strong sense of purpose and determination. From her look, she seemed to understand him, as if she too felt a similar pain. He drew a strange comfort from those brown orbs. In this sudden infinity, she and him were the only two people in the world, the only people that mattered.

She had no intention of giving anyone a second glance. But he had caught her attention and she was unable to fathom why. This simple human had commanded her full awareness. Selene couldn't deny that she hadn't been intrigued. His gaze then reached her own and she could not bring her self to look away. It was the most honest look she had seen in her six centuries. He was ruggedly handsome and wore a soaked jacket as his only protection from the rain. Unconsciously, she felt her defenses waver. His green eyes mirrored her feelings deep within her soul. Selene could almost feel a shift in his thoughts, as if her eyes provided him with some kind of solace. He may have been below her, but they were exactly the same in this moment. She shared the pain of loss and a feeling of sadness. It was a connection, a link. It didn't matter that Selene was a vampire, an immortal, and he was a mere human, a mortal. In that moment, she was just a woman, and he was just a man.
