I don't need you to protect me,
or to help me survive.
I don't need you because I'll be filled with guilt,
unless I know that you're alive.
I don't need you because I owe you,
and feel like I need to return the favour.
I need you because you are the voice in my head,
driving me to be braver.
I need you because you made me,
into the man I no longer frown in.
I need you because I can live without you,
but my whole life would be like drowning.
This place is dark and punished,
it's not where we deserve to roam.
I promise I will take you back,
to the place that is now your home.
It's so hard for me to see you like this,
so pained and wearied it's like you've given up on your mission.
Please trust in me to look after you,
let it be my turn to raise you from perdition.
I say this because I know you,
I know my love is not unrequited.
I know when I touched you, you yearned for me,
and you felt our love like I did.
You're selfless and I love you for it,
and I wish I had half the courage that you do.
But you saved my life and you're my best friend,
and I'm not leaving here without you.
