All right!! This is my first fanfic ever so I'd appreciate any constructive criticism through reviews. However, any flames will be purposely ignored. This first chapter is
just a prolouge so I apologize for its short length. There will be more to come. Promise!!! However, don't expect updates too often. I'm a very busy person.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters.

Down Under

Prolouge

Sorrow. It was eating away at her very being, threatening to overtake her pitiful life. She could feel her salty tears building up under her eyelashes rolling down her pale lifeless cheeks dripping down onto the delicate fabric of her black dress. Anyone who looked upon her would have marveled at her beauty; the lovely features of her face, the curve of her body, the way her wavy black tresses fell half way down her back… if she hadn't looked like the life had been literally sucked out of her very being.

She watched as they lowered the casket deep within the earth their shovels moving in rhythm with her heart, burrowing it deep within for all eternity. She glanced up. The sky, it was so bright, so full of life… how she used to be before.

'What will I do now?' was the only thought racing frantically through her mind. 'I'm alone, my family….Mother…she's dead. Gone forever.'

A pull on her hand retrieved her from her thoughts. She glanced down, almost in surprise at the hand enfolded in her own and the beautiful four year boy it belonged to. 'Souta.'

"Sister?" he glanced up at her questionably, with innocence only a child could portray.

"Sister?" he repeated. "Why are you sad? And what… what are they doing to mommy?" True confusion was expressed deep within the depths of his brown eyes.

Tears pooled in her eyes at the question to which she could give no true answer. She lifted her dear brother and infolded him within her arms, hugging him close as if it would break her to let him go.

"Their putting her soul to rest so she can go to a happier place," she whispered softly in his ear struggling to hold back the tears that threatened to overtake her.

"But don't worry. I'll protect you….brother."

Yes, she would protect him. She would be strong and not give into despair and live on… for his sake if nothing else.

Next Time: Marriage???
