A/N: Redo...
"Bella, stop playing with your food and eat it." Charlie stared over at the young girl sitting to his right before taking another bite of his dinner. "See, it's good for you."
"It'll help you grow up big and strong." Her mother, Renee mused from across the table.
The tiny brunette stared at her food, dragging it slowly around her plate and staring at it as if it had wronged her in some way. The tiny pieces of vegatables seemed to mock her with every second that they sat in front of her. Even the color and smell disgusted her let alone the taste. How could anyone eat such a thing? Perhaps, there was another way to "grow up big and strong". It was really quite a shame that she had to endure something as foul as vegatables.
"Isabella..." Her father sighed. "Now." Both of her parents gave her that knowing look that said we mean it.
"Yes, papa." She screwed up her face, forking a small green tree. That's what broccoli reminded her of anyway. Just as she was about to put it in her mouth, a knock came at the door. Her fork dropped quickly to her plate and her head perked up snapping toward the hallway in their tiny home. "I'll get it!" She yelled jumping up from her place at the table.
Charlie put his hand on his daughter's shoulder and gave her a stern fatherly look.
"I'll get it. You sit." He said, getting up to leave.
Bella sighed and fell back into her chair staring at her veggies again. Well, back to square one, she thought to herself.
"Do I really have to eat this, mama?" She complained. "I swear you and papa are trying to kill me. Just look at this... this... ugh!" Bella pushed her plate back so that she could lay her head against the table.
"Most children would be happy to have food. Even veggies." Her mother said, shaking her head at her daughter's antics. "Be grateful you have-"
A loud crash and her father's scream interrupted her mother, and Bella immediately felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Her mother rushed up from her chair and pulled the little girl behind her with such urgency that it almost sent Bella crashing to the floor. She was clumsy on any other given day after all so why would this be any exception?
The air grew eerily silent as the moments passed by. Her father didn't appear in the hallway or say one word from the other room. That scream... Bella's stomach dropped and she felt as if she were going to lose the part of her dinner that she had actually enjoyed.
"Charlie!" Her mother called out to the dark and foreboding shadows coming from the hall. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It was so quiet... Thud. Something heavy sounded like it had been dropped on the floor. Alex curiously leaned around her mother a bit to catch sight of what was happening, but Renee's motherly instincts and strong grip made it difficult.
Seconds turned into minutes which felt like hours, both waiting for a sign of something that said it was going to be okay. Yet, that sign never came. The feeling of anxiety and fear never let up. Bella could feel herself wanting to be anywhere else but here right now. The only thing that kept her in place was her mother's touch and her father's silence. She was worried for him. He was the strongest person she knew. Nothing could ever happen to him.
"Wait. Here." Her mother said, turning around to face her. "I'm serious, Bella. This is serious. If anything happens I want you to run, okay? Just keep running."
She stared into her mother's eyes searching for something although she didn't know what. Bella finally nodded.
Renee turned around and slowly walked toward the hallway picking up a knife from the table. The young girl watched as the shadows swallowed her mother whole not knowing what was to come. My, how things had changed from the normal family dinner to an evening that felt almost never-ending.
Bella paced back and forth growing more sick with worry. I should've just eaten those vegetables, she thought. Maybe, they are messing with me. If they are then who was that at the door, and why would mama sound so frightened? Oh, where are they? A tear slipped its way down her cheek, and she wiped it briskly trying to be strong. Crying would get her nowhere. She had to do something, to act fast. She took a deep breath and crept toward the hall, trying to not alert anyone to her prescence. If there was trouble, she didn't want it to find her.
She navigated across the wood floor with such great precision, having learned each part that creaked under her weight from the countless times of trying to sneak into the kitchen to steal a cookie or two. Her back slid against the wall lightly as she held her outstretched hand in the direction of the living room where the front door was located. It was very dark and her eyes were still adjusting.
All seemed well at first, the wall had disappeared behind her so she knew she had made it into the living room with no problems. That was until she tripped over something and hit the floor smacking her knee into the hard ground. She hissed and hugged it close to her body, slowly rocking and trying to ignore the pain. It was okay. It was going to be okay. She just had to get up and find a light or walk out the front door. Anything.
She placed her hands on the floor underneath her and got ready to push herself up when her toes touched something wet. It felt like a thickening puddle and something deep inside her knew it was off. It just felt so wrong. She gently reached out her hand tapping around on the floor to see what was around her until she touched it...
Was that... was that a body?!
The fireplace suddenly came to life and a man stood next to it, stroking the embers with a fondness. The slowly growing flames played off his eyes, making them flicker a deep red. He was handsome, but with the way his eyes danced against the flames licking the air there was almost something evil about him.
His head slowly cocked to the side and he peered at her from across the room, his eyes becoming a crystal blue that seemed too inhuman to belong to anyone.
"Well, hello there. So nice of you to finally join us.. Bella, right?" He smiled at the girl. The smile was cold, almost taunting and feral. It was such a nice gesture, but coming from him in such a way made it seem frightening with promises of death.
"U-us?" Bella's voice shoke, unable to break eye contact with the deep pools of blue. His gaze shifted to beside the brunette causing her eyes to finally cut away from his and see what he was staring at.
Bella immediately choked back a sob. Her parents were laying on the floor in a puddle of their own blood, neither of them moving. Both had seemed as if their throats had been shredded and ripped out. She slowly crawled closer to them, not quite comprehending just what she was seeing.
"Mama, Papa..." She said quietly. Neither responded and she shook them hard, trying to wake them up and screaming for them, but it was no hope. If the massive amounts of blood were not clear enough then the unnatural lack of movement was definitely a sign that they were no longer living. A whimper escaped the girl's throat as hot tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Shhhh..." The pale man ran his long fingers through his bronze hair and smirked at her as he made his way across the living room. "You'll see them very soon, a lot sooner than you might think." In the blink of an eye, he was there and in Bella's face. She had almost missed it; he was so fast. This only frightened her more.
"What are you?" She asked, studying him closely.
He reached his hand out to touch her face, but she yanked her head back and cowered away from him causing him to grin. Fangs glistened in his mouth and the quiet room filled with the sound of her gasp. She knew it in her heart of hearts then. She was going to die by this man... No... Not a man. No mere man could move like he did or even looked like he did for that matter.
"If I told you, wouldn't that ruin the surprise?" He chuckled darkly, taking a deep breath. His nostrils flared and eyes fluttered. "You smell so divine when you're afraid. I bet you taste even better."
Bella's eyes widened as she took in his words. Taste? She tried to scoot away only to cry out when a sharp pain flashed through her knee again that she had hurt before. Looking down, she saw his icy hand wrapped around it in a crushing grip. She was going nowhere. The tears were flowing freely from her fear and the constant crushing pain that she felt.
He smiled crookedly, slightly amused by her reactions, before leaning in toward her neck. Bella squeezed her chocolate eyes shut as tight as they possibly could not wanting to see or know what was going to happen next.
Sharp fangs lightly grazed the girl's neck. She was waiting for the pain of them breaking the skinning and tearing into the soft flesh, but it never happened. Instead a loud howl erupted from outside of her home. The man's head whipped up quickly toward the door of the house and he growled out in frustration.
"What a nuisance?!" He snarled before standing and heading to the window. "Consider yourself rather lucky." And with that he smashed through the glass within seconds.
Bella stared at the broken window in confusion, part of her still afraid that he would reappear and get her. She didn't have much time to think on such a thing though as her attention was brought back to the door that had opened across the room. A young couple who looked to be in their late twenties walked in. She automatically began to relax until she got a really good look at them. Both of their movements were as fluid and graceful as the bronze haired man's. The only differences being that these people weren't as ghostly pale. Bella could easily tell this because both were completely bare of any clothes. The man also had blond hair while the woman had more of a carmel color. Though it wasn't the lack of clothes that made Bella uncomfortable and stare at them surprisingly. No. It was the vibrant yellow eyes which slowly turned to sets of blue and green eyes that looked actually human for once.
"A-are you going to hurt me?" Bella asked cautiously. The woman smiled warmly at the little girl while the man shook his head.
"Of course not, sweetheart." The man said gently.
"We're here to keep you safe." The woman echoed the blond man's thoughts before scooping Bella up and carrying her out of the house.
