It was a sunny afternoon, and the sand under my feet was hot. I examined the water in front of me, deciding to go in or not. The beach was packed with families, couples, and friends. My dark brown hair blew in the wind, against my soft face. The grains of sand moved between my feet as I wiggled my toes.
"Emily! Come on in!" Allie was waiting in the water for me.
"In a minute! Lemme go get my towel in the car," I shouted back as I turned. The wind blew against my skin as I jogged up the beach. I glanced back at Allie and laughed. I shifted my head back to the car, and something smacked into me. I fell to the burning sand and my hat fell beside me. I sat up, slightly dizzy.
"Oh my! Are you okay?" A boy was standing above me, no a man, who looked about my age. Seventeen or eighteen I'd say. His hair was slightly shaggy, a light brown, which also blew in the wind. His eyes, well they were obviously green, but I noticed a small ring of brown, which really made them different.
"Hurry! Hurry!" he shouted to me, holding out his hand. I grabbed it and he pulled me up.
"Hurry?" I questioned. He looked at his wet skin, drying in the blazing sun.
"Sorry about this," he said quickly, then threw me over his shoulder and ran towards the water. I was shocked, what was he doing? The next thing I knew he ran into the water, bringing me along for the ride. Once we were in, he let me go. I gasped for air above the water, trying to find him. I couldn't spot him until he emerged a little to my left.
"I'm sorry I had to do that, I… I'm not good with the sun, and I wanted to apologize for running into you. It would have been rude to just run away." When he explained, he looked amazing, shaking water from his hair.
I was speechless.
" Hello?" he said curiously at me gazing at him. I snapped out of it.
"H-hi… sorry, well I mean, it's okay," I stuttered when I talked. He laughed, and it was an incredible sound.
"I'm Aiden." He held out his hand, like he had before, but more sincerely since he wasn't in a rush. I took his hand greedily and shook it.
"Emily." I mumbled, feeling my face get hot. He smiled, it was brighter then the sun. I peeked behind his outstanding body, to see girls murmuring things to each other, pointing to where we stood. I could see why. I looked over to Allie. She gave me a 'What are you doing?' look. I smiled and looked back at Aiden. Aiden, I like that name.
"So, how come I haven't seen you around?" I asked, thinking it over to make sure it came out right.
He smiled, "Actually, I'm new to town."
"Oh, new? Where from?" That sounded too personal, maybe I shouldn't of asked.
"Britain." He stated.
"Wow, that's a far way."
" Dad's job," he said. He looked into the sun, and disappeared under the water again. I turned around in all directions, trying to spot him in the dark water. I felt a touch against my shoulder and jumped, letting out a little scream. This caught some people's attention, mostly the girls from before. He laughed, and apologized for scaring me. I tried to remember Allie's tips for asking a guy out, but I am such a shy person I wasn't ever able to apply them.
"Since you're new, why don't… well why… you could come with…" I couldn't find the words, and now I was babbling on. My face got hot again and I looked down, embarrassed.
He laughed, "I'd love to go out with you sometime," he responded. I looked up at his smiling face, and joined in with his smile. I could tell the other girls were getting jealous.
I wasn't even pretty, why was he interested in me? Wait! He must just feel bad for me, that's why he said yes. I felt embarrassed again, and my cheeks got even hotter then before.
