Author Note: Okay, okay, you caught me. I was supposed to be a beta, right? Well, this plot bunny bit and wouldn't let go. Dedicated to thelastcity, my shining star that keeps encouraging me. This one's for you, hun! ;)
Author Note 2: This is probably really crappy, cause I beta-ed it myself, but hey. As always, if you have any stories that you need a beta for, I'm more than happy to help out.

He won't deny that he dreams about her.
Not obsessively, as would definitely be unhealthy for him, but enough to realize that this proverbial line he has drawn in the sand is obsolete. It has been rained on so often, stretched by so many circumstances, that the sharp black line has faded to a murky gray, distorting the boundaries of his world. Personal and professional have become so blended, so blurred, that he wonders if there really is a difference anymore. After all, dreaming about your partner is, well, not very partner-like.
Those who know them best might not, but outside observers would be surprised that most of these dreams consist not of hellish bĂȘte noirs in which she is yet again in peril, although those do tend to once again plague his dreams after particularly draining cases. He has come to discover that when, as she often does, she runs off without any regard for her own safety to claim justice for another of the unfortunate victims to see the examination table of her lab, the nightmares become more persistent, more violent. He wakes up in cold sweat, only to realize that she is, indeed, safe at home. But, thankfully, the bĂȘte noirs have become few and far between.
These dreams are also usually void of what he believes he once overheard Angela referring to as the "earth-shattering sex" that he and Brennan would undoubtedly have (because everything happens eventually, doesn't it?). He agrees with Angela, but that is not the primary focus of his dreams. No, he is too much in love with her to only fantasize about her physical attributes. It is the whole person he is in love with, not just the stunningly beautiful woman he gets the pleasure of working with.
Most people would probably find his dreams rather mundane. They contain no extraordinary circumstances, no wildly exciting moments. What he sees in his dreams are little snippets of what life would be like if she was truly his.
The dreams consist of everyday activities. Waking up to her smile. The two of them smiling at each other over breakfast at his kitchen table. Both curled up on the couch together, watching some documentary of her choice or a movie he had picked out. Spending the day with his son at the museum, her explaining to Parker the history of hundreds of artifacts , him looking on. Her smiling at him over an ice cream cone while they chat at a local park. All rather ordinary events for most. For him, however, it would be a dream come true.
Because, at the end of the day, they all spun from one common thread: Him seeing her smile. And for him ,that is a dream come true.
