Quick oneshot that takes place around the start of Mockingjay, when the Capital has Annie and Finnick is in District 13 with that rope they gave him. Hope you enjoy!

He twists the rope in his hands, one knot and another and another and another coming and going before anyone can identify them. Knots strong enough to keep a boat to a dock. Strong enough to trap a human and dangle them from a tree. Strong enough to form a net that could capture all the fish in District Four but not strong enough to keep Annie attached to him.

He ties and unties, rubbing the rope against his calloused hands until it burns. Hands that touched every woman in the Capitol. He tries to burn their touch away.
He ties and unties, capturing his finger in the knot, these fingers that used to be intertwined with hers. She'd squeeze his hand hard when she thought she might scream and he'd hold her close when she began to shake.
He ties and unties. If this rope was long enough he'd make a noose.
He ties and unties. If they'd let him out he'd run to the water. Find a stone and pretend it is her as he holds it close to his chest and he'd jump. He'd sink down to the bottom and we would be safe.
