Iron Man and Captain America haven't you ever wondered how their so different but yet how their so alike in some ways. I know you're probably looking at this right now and are like what universe are you living in sister ? While it's true that most of the time their polar opposites of each other their are some instances where they actually do share something in common with each other.
It's true that there are some definite things they share in common that basically everybody knows like for example their both avengers and that's sorta of a no duh one. Also they both have saved the world many times over, that again if you read anything about marvel or watched the movies well then no duh again. Another thing they share in common is that there both extremely brave and loyal. There also both willing to sacrifice themselves to save the ones they care about. Also it's not usually something that's talked about much but both of their fathers weren't the greatest of dads at all. Tony's father ignored him for work and Steve's father was a known alcoholic.
So yep see they do have some things in common besides the obvious but now that you knows some things they have in common lets also see where they contrast each other. One thing that's really different between them is actually what they represent. See Captain America represents traditional ideas about America and Tony Stark represents American might and capitalism. Another really big thing that you can tell in the movies or comics is that Captain America has a respect for authority and well Tony Stark obviously doesn't(just watch the first Iron man movie and all will become clear). Now the Captain also cares about the common good while Tony argues that self interest works just as good. Even though really both ideas are needed because while it's good to care about the common good you also have to take care of yourself as well.
Tony Stark is also known for being a very selfish man while Captain America is usually generally known for being unselfish. Lets just say Tony had to choose between the lives about someone he cares about or a bus full of random people well lets just say if I were you I'd hope you're not on that bus. While the Captain gave up everything he'd known including the girl he loved, for saving New York from a bomb. Their opinions on Howard Stark also differ greatly since Tony didn't have a very good relationship with his dad but Steve was great friends with him. Also Steve got his powers through an experiment while Tony actually made the Iron man suit himself.
The conclusion is that their two very different people who have some things in common but they also respect each other. But even through all their differences their actually great friends in the comics. Heck even Tony himself admitted that Steve Rodgers was one of his best friends in the comics. So now that you know for yourself some of the differences and similarities between them who's your favorite? Personally for me I'm a big fan of the Captain but I really like Iron Man too.
