Steven was sitting near the ocean, waiting for Jamie to come with the mail. He sat there for 15 minutes until hearing a familiar voice.
"Hello Steven!"
The boy looked up and saw Jamie. "H-Hi."
Jamie noticed the flag on the mailbox. He opened it to see what it was Steven had to deliver. Inside there was a pink envelope which said 'Connie Maheswaran' on the back with hearts on the corners. "Oh, this is for your little friend, isn't it?"
Steven shyly nodded. He didn't want Jamie to know what was in the envelope. "I wrote the address on there for you."
"Thanks Steven, but I already know where the Maheswarans live. How could I deliver mail to a certain address without remembering it?" The mailman walked off. "Silly Steven."
"I hope she reads it." Steven took a deep breath.
The Maheswaran household was quiet as usual. Both Connie and her mother were reading while Mr. Maheswaran was looking at their mail.
"Connie. You have a letter." Connie's father said.
The young girl looked up from the book with diamonds in her eyes. "It's from Steven! He told me he had a surprise coming through the mail!" She jumped up to grab the envelope from her dad. Inside was a letter and a necklace. Connie decided to open the letter first.
Dear Connie,
This is what I was telling you about. It might look like an ordinary letter and necklace but it's not. Anyways, let's get to the point.
I've been doing some thinking after last week, and I thought I'd tell you something.
Connie, you're my best friend. You are absolutely amazing and for a while now I've started to see you as much more than that.
I like you. Not in a friendship way. Not as a sister. But more like in the way a mother and father, mother and mother, or even father and father love each other.
I've never understood why you had no friends before me. It's sad to think that people don't see what I see in you. When I think of you, I think of a courageous, smart, pretty, talented, and loving girl.
I know that this might seem a bit 'cliche' to you, so I decided to get you a gift that makes up for that. I'm still trying to get used to this whole romance thing but I really tried here.
Yours truly,
Steven
Connie picked up the necklace after reading the letter.
In silver letters, the chain had read:
SU
The brunette had smiled and put on the necklace. She walked out the door and headed to Steven's house.
Steven was messing with a necklace of his own that said CM on it. He heard a knock on the door and immediately got up to open it. Steven was ecstatic to see his best friend standing in front of him.
"I-I liked your gift." Connie's face was flushed pink.
"Hey, you're wearing your red bracelet and the necklace!" Steven noticed.
She giggled. "I thought you'd like that."
"Our necklaces are matching necklaces if you haven't noticed already." Steven held up his to show Connie. "Mine says CM because your name is Connie Maheswaran. And yours says SU because my name is Steven Universe! I picked that out for us as a little reminder that no matter what, we will always have each others backs."
"That's really thoughtful, Steven. I'm going to wear it every chance I get to." She pulled Steven in for a hug and kissed him on the cheek.
Steven could practically feel his face become redder than a glass of Kool-Aid. "What was that for?"
Connie smiled. "I like you too, you silly goose."
They stood there in silence for a few seconds, smiling at each other.
"Wanna go watch some TV or something?" Steven asked to break the silence.
"That's cool with me. We still need to do some catching up on Under the Knife anyway."
The two held hands as they walked to Steven's room.
It's horrible, I know. I'm not good with these. Also I couldn't resist that Kool-Aid joke. Call me crazy for that, I won't care.
