Words Like Knives
Chapter 1
If Elena could pick a moment that she would like to stay in it would forever be this one, because this moment was the one before her life changed forever. This was the perfect moment, because everything in her life was simple and easy because in this moment there was no bad in her world. But in the world there was always bad things happening and in the next moment in her life that was no exception, but she just wanted this moment to last longer so she stayed in it for just a second longer before her world came crashing down in front of her.
It was a cold Saturday morning in the town of Mystic Falls, when Elena's eyes fluttered open and she turned on her side to look upon the sleeping face of her husband Damon Salvatore. They had been married for fifteen happy years and had two very beautiful twin children. One boy and one girl. Things were perfect in Elena's happy life and nothing could really ruin that.
Damon stirred opening up his beautiful blue eyes and staring down at Elena. She had always loved those eyes. She pressed her lips up to meet his as she stayed in that moment and in that kiss, but unfortunately life wasn't perfect and in that moment Elena would find that out the hard way.
The phone rang shrill in her ears as Damon and Elena broke apart their kiss. Who the hell would be calling this early in the morning. Groaning she gave Damon one last lingering kiss before answering her phone.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Elena Salvatore?"
"This is her."
"Mrs. Salvatore I hate to inconvenience you with this call right now but we're calling about your brother, Jeremy Gilbert and your sister in law Bonnie Gilbert. "
"What's happened?"
"I'm sorry to tell you this Mrs. Salvatore, but there's been an accident-"
The doors flew open as Elena ran down the corridor of the hospital and to the waiting room where Bonnie and Jeremy's daughter, Elaine sat covered head to toe in scratches. Elena took a moment before heading towards her. She looked so much like her mother everyday that passed by and it had been a while since she saw her or her family. Things had just been so busy at the hospital where she worked that she had missed a couple of dinners and family occasions. She would do anything to have those back now as tears flowed down her eyes and she made her way to Elaine.
"Hey sweetheart." she said sitting beside her.
Elaine pulled her feet up to the chair and curled into herself as someone Elena knew from legal came down to meet them.
"Elena and Damon Salvatore I presume?"
They both nodded
"I'm Lexi Branson, I'm sorry for your loss."
"Thank you." Elena said looking at Elaine who was still avoiding everyone. She couldn't say she blamed her. She was also like that when her parents had died.
"That being said, I'm here to talk to you about Bonnie and Jeremy's wishes. They have you both listed as the Godparents to Elaine."
Damon and Elena looked at each other and back to Elaine who was both looking at them mortified at what she was hearing.
"I don't want to go with them" she said.
"Elaine-" Lexi started.
"Just don't. Seriously."
"I'm sorry Elaine, but we have no choice but to send you with them. We can't let you end up in the streets."
"Whatever. It's not like I have much of a choice anyway."
"Can-Can I see them?" Elena asked. Her head was spinning from the news.
How was she going to do this and would they ever be okay again?
