Disclaimer: I love Harry Potter with a passion, but sadly I do not own it.

This story was written prior to the release of Deathly Hallows, and therefore is not accurate to the current Harry Potter universe. I hope you enjoy it anyway, despite the fact that it was written when I was 13.

No Turning Back

By: Lou

Rain pounded louder and louder down on the old house. How long would the dilapidated structure last in this storm?

No, the storm wasn't made naturally. The war remained in tact, unaltered despite the Order's attempts. Hermione turned her head and looked out the small window of the house. It was the fortieth day that Ron, Harry and she had been away from home…from anyone, actually. Glancing at the calendar, her short-lived peace disappeared. It didn't seem possible…probable that three teenagers could hunt down several horcruxes hidden by the most powerful wizard at present.

The entire attempt must be a mistake. Dumbledore hadn't wanted it like this, and Hermione knew it. She wished she knew whether Ron and Harry knew it as well. Sighing, she got out of bed. What could she do? She certainly could not tell Harry and Ron that this was all a mistake; that they had to go home. It just wouldn't work out like that. Harry needed to do this, and Hermione knew that if Ron and she deserted him, he would take the responsibility solely upon himself, and that was not an option either. She would not abandon him.

Her mind backtracked to the outcomes of the mission. Was it worth their attempts? She knew the answer immediately. Yes. The assurance of the death of, well, Voldemort, would amend the wizard and muggle worlds alike. But surely it would end up in death for one of them. Devastated, she sat back down on the bed. As it squeaked under her weight, she put her head in her hands.

Ron…what was he thinking? Hermione-well…Hermione loved him. How would they end up? She didn't know if she could go on living without him.

There came a rustle from the bed next to her, and quickly Hermione pulled the covers over her and clamped her eyes shut. Immediately, she shut off her ongoing train of thoughts, and her sudden change of emotion, the shame she felt at questioning the outcome of the journey, assured her that there was one thing she knew for certain:

They had to do this. There was no turning back now.
