Summary- Evelyn's regret and love for Danny and
Rafe. R/R I'm not good with summaries,
so you will just have to read it to understand.

The wind whipped
Evelyn's black hair across her face. It
stung her tear-stained cheeks as she sat weeping in front of Danny's
grave. She couldn't help but think
about the fact that any day she was to give birth to his son, Daniel Jr., and
that he would never get to know his real father. She wiped the tears away from her face and was comforted by the
thought that Rafe would be just as good as a father as Danny, but for her, it
still would not be the same.
Of course she loved
Rafe. She loved him with so much
passion and she was receiving all that she had wanted in life, before she got
to know Danny better, but she had already chosen to give her whole heart to
Danny, and he had already received it with open arms. She carried his baby after all.
She stood up and
stared at the inscription on Danny's tombstone and read it aloud:
I soared above the songbirds,
And never heard them sing.
I lived my life in winter,
And then you brought the Spring.
Those words touched
her heart and she remembered how the just spilled off of Danny's lips as he
recited that verse to her. She had
loved him so dearly. His comforting
grasp helped guide her and give her faith in living, and he left her, almost as
quickly as he had come. She gave
herself to him that one night in the parachute hanger and she had also grasped
a hold of her life. And instantly, it
was jerked away from her and destroyed all the love that she had ever created.
Evelyn combed her
hand through her hair and could only help but think, It's all my fault that
Danny is dead. I should have told him
that I was pregnant, that I was carrying his baby! He may not have even gone on the mission then, or, or he could
have come back alive, he could have come back alive…
Rafe came up behind
Evelyn and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. He will never have as gentle a touch as Danny did, Evelyn
thought to herself.
"Evelyn," Rafe
began. "I miss him as much as you do,
but, but you can't be so hard on yourself.
You understand? It wasn't your
fault." He was holding her shoulders
and looking her straight in the eyes.
He wanted to help her so much, but he didn't quite know what to do. He turned and stood next to her, staring at
the grave. "You know, Danny told me one
night during training that he felt he had a duty to go. Nothing was going to change his mind, Evelyn,
nothing. But don't get me wrong, he
loved you, he still loves you, and you were the first girl he ever loved. And you know what? He would want you to be strong.
You have two people to look after now, yourself and Daniel Jr. Now you and I have to live our lives. Together we can make it Evelyn, you and I
can make it together." He took a step
back and stared at the ground.
Evelyn whipped
herself around and cried into his chest.
Oh, how she hated that he was right, that it was time to move on. She now had someone else to look after.
Rafe took her arm
and helped guide her upstairs to the bedroom, where she laid down on the bed
and slept through the night, with Rafe watching by her side, and Danny watching
from the skies.
