Note: Have you ever gotten seriously pissed off whilst reading a fic when the characters of Duo and Quatre are portrayed as second rate soldiers or pilots compared to the others? Well, I have and that basically explains this lill ditty.

WARNINGS: No Pairings. Pointlessness.

He was amazed at how quickly such a simple mission could turn sour. It should have been a simple case of getting in, blowing stuff up and getting out again. He was usually so good at that! Instead he was now a prisoner along with Trowa and Wufei, both of whom had attempted to rescue him.

Heero sat with his back against the cell wall, contemplating an escape route. Their chances of a successful rescue were almost zero seeing as the only other two he viewed as competent soldiers were sitting opposite him in handcuffs. Quatre and Duo were good enough pilots, in his eyes, but when it came to an intense rescue like this, both fell short in expertise.

He shifted uncomfortably at thoughts of his colleagues, knowing that, even though he had no chance, Duo would still attempt a rescue. It would not be long before the braided baka joined them in their incarceration. Quatre would probably employ the help of the Magaunac's which would increase his chances but when it came to his own part of infiltration, he was bound to fail.

Now you may think that this was an arrogant assumption on the Perfect Soldiers part and in a way you are right. However Heero himself had no evidence to suggest either pilot capable of doing something which he thought of as a walk in the park. Duo was a loudmouthed braided baka who was very good at stealth operations despite his perchance for talking but this mission would require his utmost concentration and in his experience, Duo found it hard to concentrate on a task for anything more that a few minutes. As for Quatre, the boy was a brilliant strategist but he was just that, a boy. He thought to much and valued human life to highly. A task like this rescue would certainly involve killing.

Before you start yelling at Heero for his opinions it is only fair that you know he was not alone in his thoughts. Trowa and Wufei felt the exact same way about their comrades, having been presented with the same evidence all through their acquaintance. Although, to his credit, Wufei did have a mildly higher opinion of Quatre but he still thought the boy was weak. Then again, he thought most people were weak.

So it was a shock, to say the least, when the heavy prison door swung open to reveal the second and forth pilots. Duo was packing up his electronic lock picking equipment while Quatre stood behind him, laying down cover fire. They ran out behind their saviours, seeing the 'get away' jeep already secured, being handed the OZ Soldier uniforms procured for the escape.

They observed silently the way the Soldiers around them fell to Quatre's bullets and Duo led them in silence to the jeep, packing them in and swinging into the driving seat. They watched Quatre's eyes filled with that unholy glee they all knew only to well as he took the lives of their enemies.

As they left the carnage of the base and as the light of the explosives set by the surprisingly diligent and thorough Duo, Heero thought, surveying the blond angel and braided loudmouth, you should never judge a book by it's cover.
