It would be better if she could lie to him.

If when he is fifteen minutes late getting to the greenhouse and she snaps – with tears in her eyes – that she's tired of waiting, she could tell him that she's actually talking about him and not the man she's really waiting for.

If she could whisper his name, so quiet he can almost, almost forget it, in the first moment after the release, instead of his.

If she could look into his eyes and say she isn't wishing they were green.

Because then he could convince himself that he's taking more than he's giving.

That he still holds all the cards instead of just an empty hand. That she's just like all the other girls, and that having her isn't inexplicably followed by needing her.

That when they meet in the darkness, he's not giving her anything more than a quick shag and an easy smirk. Not a second thought and certainly not his heart.

That she wants anything from him that he hasn't already surrendered, and that he doesn't love her like she loves someone else.

It would be better if she could lie to him. Then maybe he could lie to himself.

Author's Note: I couldn't fall asleep because I had to get this out. The premise is Draco and Ginny having a physical relationship at Hogwarts during DH, but it's obviously very different from my other one-shot, "everything." Let me know what you think!
