This is my first published fic, featuring one of my OTPs. There is not enough love for this pairing. I do not own Dangan Ronpa or any of its characters.

Maizono mumbled into the curve of Kirigiri's neck, quiet enough to be dismissed as nothing if not heard properly.

"I love you."

She felt the arms around her tighten at the words, and she heard the other girl's heartbeat quicken. Maizono smiled at how cute she was being. She raised her head flash her a grin, but paused to rub at her eyes. They were still wet, and she was a little embarrassed that she had cried in front of Kirigiri.

Droplets continued to rain down on her skin, and they weren't hers. The idol looked up in shock, surprise written across her face. Kirigiri's eyes were red, rimmed with tears that cascaded over her cheeks, and her shoulders were shaking slightly. She could feel her hands trembling now.

Such an astonishing sight was one to leave you speechless. What had caused the stoic, clinical Kirigiri Kyouko to break down like this? Kirigiri kept to herself most of the time, answering questions with short replies, never talking unless spoken to, always shooting down the few offers to hang out. Her enigmatic behavior kept most at bay.

Maizono was often questioned about their relationship. How Kirigiri had end up with her, who constantly had swarms of students and fans surrounding her, was a mystery. She wasn't the detective. The girl in her arms was, and she herself was a mystery.

Kirigiri's eyes widened when she felt Maizono's lips on her own. "It'll be alright, because I'm here for you." And she was, she meant it, and that was what Kirigiri needed right now. This was the most vulnerable Maizono had ever seen her, and more questions rose the longer time stretched on. Maizono patiently waited, holding her in her arms until the girl had ceased her quiet sobbing.

She rubbed her back comfortingly, asking her if she would tell her what was wrong. A period of silence passed. Perhaps she was gathering herself, or maybe she was contemplating whether or not she trusted this girl with her thoughts. Eventually, she opened her mouth to speak, and out tumbled years of contained feelings and unspoken opinions.

Maizono let her ramble on and on, talking about everything she's bottled up for so long. Her disappointment in her father, how her line of work made her very unsocial, the fact that most people are driven away by her cold stare, trained by her line of work.

As Kirigiri voiced her thoughts and musings, Maizono would give small comments, encouraging her to keep talking when she stopped, giving her shoulder when she the tears started again.

A detective is taught to trust no one, but there are few exceptions. Maizono is glad that she is one.
