I had been alone for so long. Alone with the sounds and sweet airs of the isle, the beauteous music that enveloped my spirit and gave me comfort in my solitude that weighed ever heavy on my soul since my mother's death. I was born on this island, a true native and the rightful owner of this place, the sole inhabitant… until they came.
I remember that night well. It was cold. The rain and wind and waves were beating down upon me and I was unable to sleep. Something called to me, urging me to move my limbs and run down to the shore. I was unable to resist. There, beached on the sand lay a dark shape, what I later learnt was a ship, almost completely destroyed by those violent and indiscriminate waves. An overriding sense of joy filled me when I discovered the cargo it held – oh what a fool I was! The excitement at seeing beings like me for the first time in my life and the delight at no longer being alone subdued my better reason. Oh they were kind to me at the beginning and taught me the ways of their world, a world they said had forsaken them and cast them out into the unknown, and in return I showed them the beauties of the isle – the fresh springs, the jay's nests, where the best berries grew - but it was all in vain. That kindness they carelessly bestowed was so easily withdrawn with just the slightest disobedience…
Now they look down on me like I am a cockroach, a toad, a worm. A mere slave! A free man forced into subjugation by a cruel wizard oppressing those weaker than himself!
Fate is fickle. I have fallen from his grace and am "punished" being forced to carry out tasks for that hateful mage who now rules my island. But times are changing. I have found a new master, one worthy of my service. He is no mortal but a god – the very man in the moon himself! A god named Stephano who has promised me the means to rid myself of the tormentor that plagues me and sullies my land. Soon we will rid the island of him forever and I shall be free once more…
