I sat before the illuminated keyboard that shone in the pitch black of the room. As the names, the faces stared back at me from the screen, I continued to pick and discard.
These people were…irrelevant.
Choosing another person for Kvar's Angelus Project was a simple matter of picking the weakest candidates from the batch. Just a few more people and even he might decide these people were worthless. Lacking a naturally occurring mana source would be enough of a detrimental feature but still they insisted. Long ago, even they didn't need it to survive, according to him.
Just one more year.
The Crystal attached to the back of my hand was a testament to how far I've fallen. Once upon a time, I was one of these innocents on the screen before me. A person of this unknown place who could no sooner cast Judgment than Demon Fang.
At least back then I had my humanity.
Until Mithos Yggdrasil discovered my home and started stealing civilians away for testing; testing of these strange humans who have little reaction to the foreign energies around them. Humans who carry little to none of it within their bodies and who quickly die from the contact.
Of course, since Earth never needed mana to begin with…
As soon as I achieved a kind of power within Cruxis, I was given this role in a kind of irony or act of spite. I had always been an exception since the very beginning. First to survive without mana, second human to… No. I'm going off topic here.
These people may have been classmates, neighbors, friends of family, and the like… but I had no other choice but to continue to locate victims for testing, for fear of Mithos discovering that and more deaths occurring, regardless.
Calm down; relax…Just another year until the Oracle.
The people who betray, who fight, who achieve success… These people will have to pave the way for his downfall. Just a bit longer now, Mithos Yggdrasil, just a bit longer.
My finger's buried deep within the pockets of my coat, curled around my Symphonia case as I started to cry.
Just another year.
Author's note: Egads! A not-exactly-self-insert self insert! I have to admit, if Mithos ever knew of the game, Lloyd and the other's would have been screwed over before they ever had a chance. My writing may seem a bit awkward but I honestly love this idea. Too many SI's have the person not changing the story for a variety of reasons (and then joining Lloyd and the others) but this is something I've never seen before. They never suspect you to join the evil side, really.
R&R please!
