The War on Nesting Mountain

There once was a great city of Eagles.

It rose above the clouds on the top of an enormous mountain where no human had ever set foot. On this mountain the Golden and Silver eagles built their nests and raised their young. One of the Golden eagles was a hunter-warrior called Umbros. A tiercel, Umbros did not have much reputation or power but he was dedicated and fierce. Most importantly it was in his life time that the Great War began. For a long time the Golden eagles had fought with some of the lesser species such as the Hawks and Falcons. They disliked the swift Peregrine's swooping over the mountain or the solid broad-winged Hawks nesting on the lowest cliffs. So it was that when a rumor began to spread across Nesting Mountain that the Silver eagles, who had always kept to themselves and especially out of the wars of their Golden brothers, had assisted the enemy army in battle there was great outrage. A meeting was arranged between the great Queens of either clan but before it could take place a small group of furious Golden warriors attacked the nest of a hunting Silver eagle wrecking it, and killing the nesting mother, destroyed the eggs. When the Great Queens reached the meeting place they had heard of the attack and met in battle.

For many rising and falling moons the war continued until both sides had withdrawn to either side of the mountain. They ventured out in small groups attacking stealthily, without warning, killing indiscriminately. The fighting was fast, filthy, and brutal. Many lives were lost on both sides. The Golden Queen realized that the war could continue indefinitely if something was not done. She formulated a plan and asked for a warrior willing to carry it out. Umbros volunteered. The Queen sent him far away to where the humans lived in their little boxes and the air was filled with the noise and motion of their loud weapons. He rested in the hot mountains for a day then he went to where many of the humans hide their weapons and seizing one of the objects that turned the little boxes into flames he carried it aloft. Long and hard was the journey back to the mountain with the heavy metal in his talons. Umbros fought through storm and calm to swiftly accomplish his grueling mission. Finally he landed before the Golden Queen setting down the heavy explosive. This time the Queen was the one to carry it into the sky.

Far, far above the mountain she flew until she could venture over Silver eagle territory without being seen. Then she released the missile letting it fall onto the main colony of nests. When it struck the ground it exploded starting an avalanche down the side of the mountain that killed hundreds of the Silver warriors and nestlings. The horror of the attack echoed throughout the Silver kingdom until the Silver Queen declared absolute war. She sent her personal guards to the far edges of the Silver kingdom beyond the mountain and called all the warriors to her. In a single great attack she pushed into Golden lands killing the Golden queen, but the war did not end. For long years it went on, the Golden eagles hiding, escaping, and evading all capture. Though the Silver eagles held their lands the Golden warriors survived and thrived, dedicating all their lives to the single minded hate which now held sway over all of their very beings dictating the necessity of the death of all Silver eagles now and forever.
