"Toby! Put me down!" I giggle as my best friend, Tobias, slings me over his shoulder.

"Not a chance Bea! And may I remind you that when I eventually put you down, I'm just going to tickle you right?" He responds, stopping right in his tracks. Uh oh, I think.

My name is Beatrice Prior and I am eight years old. I live in Chicago and in the faction, abnegation. I live in a small house with my mom, dad and brother, Caleb. My father is on the city council with Marcus Eaton who is also Tobias' father. I don't know why but Toby is so stiff around his father ever since his mom died. Toby is 10 and pretty strong for his age. I've known him since I was three and he was five. We've been best friends ever since.

Tobias starts to put me down. As soon as my feet hit the uneven pavement, I break out into a full on sprint. Abnegation is not supposed to have friends, especially not ones of different gender. The rule are easy to follow (apparently) but not for me. I hate rules that's why is fun breaking them. I have a friend who is a boy; breaking two rules. We laugh, tease each other, and sometimes show affection like hugging or holding hands; breaking three more rules. It would be amazing if I could go one day without breaking at least five rules. The rules in my personal opinion are meant to be broken.

By the time Tobias finally catches up to me, we are both out of breathe. Even though he's strong, that doesn't mean he's as fast as me.

"Geez Bea! How do you run that fast? That was like seven streets, non stop." He exclaims once we've caught our breathe.

"I don't know. My body just tells me to run because I don't want to do anything but be free!" I saw and we both start laughing. All of a suddeni, his face grows serious causing me to stop laughing.

"I don't want to be abnegation anymore. I want to be selfish and free and myself. I don't want to have to help people all the time. I wanna be my own person."

"I know what you mean. When it comes the time of my choosing ceremony, I'm not staying here." I say with a hint of sadness in my voice.

"Then obviously we should transfer."

"Where to?"

"Dauntless." Tobias says with a devilish smile.
