Author's notes: Woot! Yes another fic! So I was wondering what people to put this under, but whatever. So this is set in Jin's POV and it's just telling how she feels invisible... so here we go...
Invisible
Jin sighed as she shifted the basket of food onto her other hip. Sometimes she got really tired of all these chores. Her parents always bossing her around, and always making her do the stuff that they don't want to do so they can stay home doing who knows what. It didn't really annoy her most of the time, but today she was getting really irritated. Sometimes it was like she was invisible.
Suddenly she heard footsteps on the otherwise empty streets. She looked up to see two people walking toward her. Jin heard murmuring and decided to duck into the close ally to wait until they passed. As they came closer she thought one of the voices sounded familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had heard it before. The two figures stopped in front of the building she was hiding beside. Jin's eyes widened as she saw the blood-red scar covering one side of the boy's face. That was Li! But who was that girl with him? Jin didn't like her; the way she carried herself, her shiny black hair, and she definitely didn't like he way her fingers were entwined with his.
"So is this where you used to work?" Jin heard the girl ask. Jin looked at the building she was hiding beside and, sure enough, it was the old teashop.
"Yeah, I guess they closed it since Uncle left." The black haired girl just shrugged apathetically. Jin definitely didn't like her.
"Are the streets usually this deserted, Zuko?" The girl asked. Wait, did she say Zuko. Prince Zuko? Jin involuntarily touched her lips. I kissed the Prince of the Fire Nation!
"So that's how he lit the lamps," she muttered to herself. Zuko's head shot to her direction. For a second their eyes met, but she slunk back deeper into the shadows.
"Is something wrong?"
"No I just thought I saw Jin," the Prince said, still looking into the ally. Jin held her breath and pressed her body up against the wall.
"Who's Jin?"
"Oh, she's no one, Mai."
Jin was rather hurt by the statement, but decided not to regard it right then. So her name's Mai. She thought.
" Well good," Mai sighed as she rested her head on his shoulder. Jin watched as Zuko let go of her hand to slink his arm around her waist and pull her closer to him. Mai looked up at him and smiled for the first time since Jin had been watching them. Turning to face Zuko, Mai laced her fingers together behind his neck and pulled him into a gentle kiss. In response, he wrapped his arms around her and deepened the kiss. Jin's face contorted into hurt, rage, and disgust at the same time. She tried to blink back hot tears, but they came, rolling down her face anyway. She couldn't take it any more. Abandoning her basket, she ran down the dark ally. She had to face it. She had lost. She had fought a good fight, but when it really came down to it, she had lost. She really was invisible.
