For this Sunday's update, as promised, here is the Parasyte fic that I actually wrote a few weeks back. Originally, I was going to upload this a week before but I had written my A: TLA fic during the same week, so I had no choice but to upload that one first. But never fear, for the story is finally here! I know there aren't a lot of people in this fandom but for those who still read this, please check the anime out. It is amazing (never going to be as amazing as KnB though)
This is, as seen above, an angsty story, so be warned. (Why I keep writing angst stories, I've no clue, but I love writing them for some reason)
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this story :)
"Shinichi." Migi's voice penetrated the tired huffs that came from a frantically running Shinichi. He glanced once at his morphed right hand before concentrating on running once more. He was at his limit; there was only so much he could run at his fastest. His stamina was draining extremely quickly and his vision was blurring. At this point, he had already stepped over the edge and was now just killing himself to get away from the nearing enemy.
"Shinichi." Migi called out once more but he didn't heed his name. He focused only on trying to slow his speeding heart, but to no avail. He felt his legs turn weaker, and many times, he almost tripped from evading the evergreen trees. He winced at the sharp pain his left arm was letting out and saw from the corner of his eye that the cut he had received earlier had reopened and blood was slowly pouring out. He coughed violently and that only slowed his running down.
"Shinichi!" Migi finally shouted and Shinichi stopped to a halt, panting terribly with his chest heaving.
"What?" He replied harshly as he gulped desperately needed oxygen. "I need to run again, before he catches up to us." He said before getting ready to run once more.
"Don't." Migi suddenly said and he stopped in his footsteps.
"What?" He asked, confused. What was Migi trying to say?
"I said don't. Don't run anymore. You're already at your limit." Migi replied and Shinichi looked at the parasite with incredulous eyes.
"Why? He's probably just a few feet away from us now. We have to keep moving."
"You will kill yourself if you keep exceeding your limits. Stop. There's no use now." Shinichi glared at Migi with an intense hatred he didn't think he had.
"So are you just going to give up now? After everything we've been through? Aren't you the one who said you were only keeping me alive so you could survive?" He retorted bleakly and Migi stayed silent. "Well, I don't want to die either. I'm going to keep moving." He declared and after one more inhale, he got into a running stance.
That, however, was not necessary.
"Found you." An eerie voice called out and Shinichi turned around to meet a familiar face. Shinichi growled as he took one step backward.
"Ah, that's going to be a really bad idea, you know?" Miki said breezily.
"And why is that?" He asked, not giving him one ounce of weakness in his voice. Miki smiled before his face started to change. Both Migi's and Shinichi's eyes widened in shock as the smiling face of Miki converted to the serious complexion of Gotou.
"Because you are already dead." He replied as a blade shot through and scratched Shinichi's stomach. He gasped out in pain as he tried to cover the wound. Another shot out immediately after and hit the same spot on his left shoulder. His face contorted in pain as he smothered a scream and carelessly dodged another blade. He then tripped and gazed upward to see far too many blades circling around the parasite. Shinichi didn't know what else to do.
So, he ran. He ran as fast as he could to any direction the trees would take him. However, it did nothing to Gotou as he could easily keep pace with his morphed feet.
"Shinichi." Migi's voice reached his ears and Shinichi looked at Migi. He had a calculating look and his eye darted from left to right, most likely to find an exit way.
"What is it? What's the plan" Shinichi huffed and almost hit a nearby tree. Migi was silent and Shinichi's eyebrows furrowed. "Migi?" he asked uncertainly and he saw that Migi was shaking his head.
"I don't know. I don't have a plan." He reluctantly said and Shinichi looked at Migi's despairing look with sad eyes. So even Migi didn't know what to do now, did he?
And the realization dawned on Shinichi not long after. He was shocked for a second before a sad smile substituted it.
He, with the remaining strength he had, flew further into the woods, evading the trees skillfully and nimbly.
"Shinichi, where are we going?" Migi asked as he kept moving his eye to inspect the disappearing scenery. Shinichi said nothing as he just focused on running, his mind far away from listening to anything else.
And, finally, after what seemed to be ages, Shinichi finally stopped running with his immense speed and slowed down to an idle walk. They were at the edge of the woods with metal bars built before the cliff. Shinichi walked up to the bars and gripped his left hand onto it, gazing at the midnight blue sky with sorrowful eyes.
"Shinichi, what are we doing here?" Migi asked and finally, Shinichi gave Migi his utmost attention.
"Hey, Migi?" He said, tears streaming down his face for the first time in what seemed like a long time. His eyes were still gazing up at the full moon lighting up the dark sky. Migi, who caught onto his tone, stiffened.
"Yes, Shinichi?" He responded, voice hollow.
"Did you like being my right hand?" Shinichi asked, sensing the enemy growing closer and closer.
"Why would you ask me that?" Migi replied, voice still empty. Shinichi turned to Migi and gave him a wistful smile, some of his tears landing on Migi's body.
"Because we both know that this is the end." He said, closing his eyes as Gotou stepped out of the woods. One of his arms hardened into a blade and shot out instantaneously.
I do not want him to die. I do not want him to leave this world just yet. I do not want to drag him along with me.
Just as the blade was only a centimeter away from piercing Shinichi's heart did Migi finally take action. He hardened himself to a blade as well and deflected it with much more strength than he was used to. Both Shinichi and Gotou looked surprised as the two blades clashed against each other.
"Migi…?" Shinichi asked in a startling voice but Migi didn't say anything as he blocked the various blades that were coming at him at once. Even Gotou had to admit that Migi was a more than adept defense, but all of them knew that he couldn't keep it up. Soon enough, Gotou would win. He was just too powerful; Migi would lose.
However, as if it were a miracle. Migi held on and protected Shinichi from the incoming blades for a full five minutes. Both Gotou and Shinichi stood there in awe as Migi kept clashing with the infinite blades. It seemed as if there was a motor added onto Migi because he did not know when to stop.
And then Gotou felt it; that unrecognizable yet familiar feeling that Migi was emitting. Gotou took a step closer and the feeling grew more intense.
His eyes widened as he finally identified this familiar feeling. It was the same feeling he had sensed with one Tamura Reiko. His eyes narrowed from the memory of her.
But then he smiled, leaving Shinichi astounded as he never knew Gotou could smile at all. Shinichi had no idea what was going on but Migi did. He sensed it.
Gotou knew.
"Do not even think about it, Gotou. I will block everything that comes my way." Migi declared as he took a battle stance, blades sharpened and glistening in the night light. Gotou was still smiling as he took one more step closer.
And without any warning, a blade came from behind Shinichi and pierced through him. Blood flew out his mouth as he fell to his knees. Migi's eye widened significantly and saw the blood covered blade slither back to Gotou.
"Shinichi!" Migi yelled as he went over to the gasping student.
"I'm fine, Migi. I'm fine." Shinichi was able to reply as he winced at the horrible pain in his stomach. Migi looked at Shinichi in silence and then turned towards Gotou, who was still smiling.
"You have changed, Migi. You are no longer one of us." Gotou commented as his blades all took an offensive stance. Migi, on the other hand, was ready to fulfill his now well-developed plan.
Shinichi, please play the prey for the time being.
"I have. And I have developed into a better living creature than you, Gotou." Migi replied. Gotou narrowed his eyes skeptically.
"That is preposterous. You have betrayed us. You have betrayed your own kind. Just like Tamura Reiko."
"I did what I could to survive, just as you all had. I have just matured enough to see how foolish our kind can be at times. Tamura Reiko had not betrayed our kind; she had just gone above it. That is all." Gotou twitched his face and the ferocious battle began once more. The clashes were loud enough to echo along the landscape and the sparks let out in each clash seemed to brighten the sky even further.
Gotou, just as Migi had expected, devised his blades to go straight to Shinichi, who was still breathing heavily with his hand to his stomach, trying hard to keep his heart from beating too quickly. Migi intercepted all the moves deftly but he knew he had to strike soon. He was growing tired; Gotou was just too strong.
During this time, Shinichi had finally turned calm down from the previous shock but his vision was still fuzzy from the loss of blood. He could distinctly make out the blades crashing into each other, somehow making a cadence that could have been mistaken for music.
Shinichi had to help Migi; he felt him grow more and more exhausted every second that flew by. He kept blinking, trying his best to clear his cloudy vision, dedicated to thought of aiding Migi to victory. But it was too difficult for him, especially when his stomach wound didn't seem to stop pouring the blood out. He felt himself getting drained of energy, just like Migi.
And then he felt it. Or, that is to say, he didn't feel it.
His right arm. It was gone.
Shinichi looked in panic to the scene before him and saw in horror that Migi had detached himself from Shinichi and was currently fighting Gotou, making himself bigger than usual to match Gotou's height.
How long had Migi been detached? If he remembered correctly, Migi could only stay detached for about 5 minutes only. How much time had passed by now?
"Migi!" Shinichi was able to gasp out and tried to lurch forward to help him but the pain had increased significantly and he was left groveling onto the ground. He could hear every collision the blades took but when he looked at the two parasites, he saw with dread that Migi was being pushed back and his normally calm and collected face was now beading with sweat and utter fatigue.
He had to do something now. He just had to. If he didn't… What would become of his friend?
Don't interrupt, Shinichi. For the love of everything that had come towards us till this moment, don't interrupt.
Of course, Migi's pleas were not telepathic and Migi saw from the corner of his eye that Shinichi was frantically trying to stand up.
Don't.
.
.
.
Please.
Shinichi took a step forward, trying to regain his balance and blinking several times to just get the blurriness away. He then took another… And another… And another…
"Shinichi!" Migi's cry was unheard as Shinichi took one last step and lunged himself at Gotou, who in turn, was surprised that he hadn't died yet.
Migi immediately turned his blades back to hands as he tried to grab for the human but the action was left in the dust as Migi's hands stopped midair, and then slumped down.
"It is done." Gotou remarked and Shinichi turned away from the parasite to try to figure out what he meant by that. When he saw Migi, he understood.
"Migi!" Shinichi cried out in anguish as he saw his friend grow smaller in size. The wound from Gotou's blade was clearly visible and was hurting Migi greatly. His eye was wide open but was threatening to close shut. His lips were covered with blood and he coughed once, spraying some more onto the ground.
"Shinichi…" Migi trailed off as he started shriveling up, just as Tamura Reiko had when she had died.
"No!" He called out and was about to run towards him when a voice stopped him in his tracks.
"It is your turn, human." Gotou deadpanned as a blade rose up and then plunged to where Shinichi stood. He saw the blade coming but it was too fast for him to dodge.
At this point, he didn't know if he even wanted to.
And then, the blade stopped short and fell to the ground with a plop. Shinichi, bewildered, looked at the enemy and saw that he had stunned look on his face and his hands covered his heart. Blood was still spilled onto the terrain. Shinichi then looked at a shriveling Migi and saw one of his blades holding onto a human heart. His eyes widened as he saw Migi huffing for air.
Thank you.
"Five parasites or not, if your host does not have a heart, none of you can live." Migi gasped out and crushed the heart to nothingness.
"How…" Gotou tried to ask but died before he could.
Shinichi looked at the rotting corpse of what was five parasites in one body but discarded the view when he laid his eyes on the equally withering Migi.
He ran towards him, completely forgetting about his wounds, and went down on his knees as he picked up Migi.
"Migi, you're going to be fine, ok? You're going to be fine. We can patch this up in no time. Just attach yourself back to me and we can fix this, ok? We can fix this." Shinichi babbled incoherently, desperately trying to cover the gash that was on Migi's body. Blood just wouldn't stop coming out.
Shinichi was scared.
"Just come back as my arm, Migi. Just come back. Attach yourself and we can fix you up. Just come back up, Migi. Come back!" Shinichi begged but he couldn't do anything with Migi's closing eye.
"Shinichi." Shinichi jumped slightly and saw with relief that Migi still had light in his eye. There was still hope. There had to be.
"Migi, it's going to be alright. It's going to be fine, ok? It's going to be fine." He reassured, more to himself than to his friend, but it seemed that Migi wasn't listening to him.
"Shinichi, I'm dying." Migi stated in a hollow voice and Shinichi shut his eyes.
"Don't say that. It's going to be fine, do you understand? You're going to be fine." He consoled but Migi shook his head tiredly.
"Shinichi, I'm dying. I'll soon become a shriveled corpse as Gotou and Tamura Reiko have. I don't have time." Shinichi couldn't do anything but close his eyes. He couldn't bear to see this end. Not like this.
"Shinichi, look at me." Migi said and reluctantly, Shinichi opened his eyes and he was met with a smiling Migi.
He was actually smiling.
"I finally understand why Tamura Reiko did what she had done. I finally understand." He spoke with a soothing voice that Shinichi didn't know he had.
"Migi, don't. Please, don't." Shinichi begged. Migi then convulsed and Shinichi saw that Migi was crying. He was crying.
"Shinichi, it hurts." Migi whispered and Shinichi held him closer to his chest. The beat of his heart was the only that could be heard in the night.
"It's ok, Migi. It's ok. It's going to be alright. You're going to be fine. You're going be fine." Shinichi murmured as he closed his eyes and prayed for a miracle. He could have prayed all night long if it weren't for Migi's last word.
"Shinichi." Migi said and Shinichi looked at his beloved friend.
It was too late now.
His eye closed slowly, the light slowing dying out, and the rest of his body shriveled until he could no longer recognize Migi anymore.
But there was only one thing stayed.
It was Migi's smile.
And, as if a spell had been broken, Shinichi cried.
The scenery was perfect for a time like this. Shinichi walked away from his girlfriend, Murano Satomi, and she was left to wonder, just when she had lost him again. She sighed, but moved forward. She would just have to get used to this Shinichi now, as they both knew he would never turn back to his old self again.
She did turn around, however, for her curiosity peaked and saw in surprise that Shinichi was at a local flower shop. She tilted her head as she saw in his left hand a bouquet of white lilies.
White lilies were the main flowers used when someone had died. Why was Shinichi buying them?
She was about to call out when she saw his face, smiling but eyes forlorn and mournful. She decided that she would not bother him now, not when she knew it was something personal for him. She gave him a sad smile, which he probably couldn't see, and left the area.
Shinichi walked alone with the white lilies in his left hand. He was gripping them more tightly than was necessary but he couldn't help himself as he approached the big cherry blossom tree. The wind blew fickly and some of the petals on the tree danced with it, making a beautiful swirling motion.
He finally arrived.
Shinichi stood in front the tree and looked downwards, where there was a bulge of dirt in the middle of the plain landscape. He knelt down as he placed the white lilies on top of the bulge and patted it several times caringly.
"Already a year, huh?" He said tenderly. The wind picked up speed and now, the trees that surrounded it swayed to the cadence of the breeze. He ran his hand through his hair and touched the lump of dirt, as if the contact could bring him back.
"Hey, Migi?" He asked, tears streaming down his face and he choked on his next few words.
"I miss my right hand."
-fin-
So, how was the story? I loved how it turned out and I showed this to my Parasyte watching friend, and I remember her bawling her eyes out when she read the part when a year had already passed. It's these reactions that kill me every time :)
I'm not sure what I'm going to upload for next Sunday but I'm sure it's going to be my Who Am I? story this time because I've been focusing on that lately. (BTW, has anyone seen the latest episode for KnB yet? My baby Furi shaking is the cutest that I can't anymore)
However, as I cannot see the future in any way (which sucks), there is a chance that I won't be able to upload that story or anything at all for that matter (which will suck even more).
Anyways, leave a favorite and a review on your way out :)
Peace,
