Little Lost Boy
A/N: "We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call, no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us, trapped, locked in it." - Williams Tennesee
He wasn't one for flowers or sentimental gestures. For this, he should have been though.
Playing, he had said. Pretending, lying, feigning love. He had a big mouth, as he'd always been told, needed to learn to keep it shut, hold his tongue, respect his elders. A simple lesson, one that he should have learned long ago. He'd thought there was time, that being a child for all those years was far more important than paying attention to life lessons. A lifetime lasts forever, he had thought. Thought he'd had all the time in the world to learn and grow up. That childhood only lasted for a second.
He'd been the one playing. Playing the part of the difficult, unruly little boy, with a contempt for rules and regulations. A little boy who wanted the world to accept him, when he'd already had what he needed, a brother and father who loved him.
Rather than flowers, there were tears. Instead of a kind memory left behind, a solemn silence. In place of a prayer, a hand on a stone, and...
"I'm sorry..."
