"InuYasha, why did you go after Kikyo again while I was gone?" Kagome asked as her and InuYasha continued to walk to Kaede's village, holding hands.
"She was being attacked by a nasty, giant soul collector sent by Naraku that's why. It had already sucked some of the souls out of her and she would have been killed a second time, had I not saved her. I won't let Naraku have his way with her again after he tricked us." InuYasha replied as he looked at her. "And Kagome, I'm not going to let Naraku do anything at all to you either. I'll always protect you and not let any harm come to you."

"So does that also mean you will continue to protect Kikyo from harm, then as well?" Kagome now asked.
"Yes, but it does not mean at all that I'll be forgetting about you. You're too important to me to stand losing. If something were to happen to you, I don't know what I'd do. I'd probably kill myself." InuYasha replied, pain showing in his eyes. Kagome tightened her grip on his hands.
"Oh, InuYasha."
I find it very, very easy to be true.

"Kagome, you're the second person I've met who's really, truly befriended me like you do. With the life I've had to live so far, people like you are as rare as gold, and I always treasure them when I find them, but for some reason, I find myself especially treasuring you, even more so than Kikyo."
"Why?"
"For one thing, in the time we've been together, you've stuck your neck out for me and put your own self in danger, and been trusting of me. That was never really the case with Kikyo. Knowing that you would be willing to put it all the line for me makes me all the more happier."
Kagome's eyes opened wide at that.

"Another thing Kagome, you trust me wholeheartdly too. The numerous times I've jumped in and pulled you of the fire, each time you always had confidence that I'd be there. And that first time we fought Kagura, your willingness to risk hitting me with one of your arrows proves that your strong, not weak, and also the depth of your trust in me."

Kagome smiled at him, and put her other hand over InuYasha's as they approached the village.

After writing a story to the tune 'Ring of Fire', I got inspired to try writing stories to other songs by the greatMan In Black, Mr. Cash himself. This is the first of the followups, and I'm already getting ideas for one set to Mr. Cash's last great song, "Hurt", and it will probably be related to Kikyo. I'm still working on Ch. 19 to the 'Green-clothed Warrior' and am currently pre-posting it on the forums at The InuYasha Journey.
