A/Note: This is my first story. Don't quite know where its going, but I had a ball writing it.
Love, Phebes
It was dark. The light, the air, the vibe of the place was thickly clouded in pain and loss. This enormous stone building, too twisted to even be thought of as a home, loomed in front of the boys like a dare. If evil could be a building, Sam believed this was it.
Sam stared at the property for a long time, his eyes wondering over the intact gardens, the well manicured lawn, but always hesitant to remove his attention to away from the grand oak doors. He had done his research. He knew this estate was one of the few remaining "Old South" homes in Kentucky. It was beautiful at one time. This two story behemoth of a house was one that was shrouded in death, misfortune, war and heart break. He felt sorry for…
A knock on the window drew Sam out of his thoughts. Dean was getting impatient. Sam automatically opened his door, the familiar squeak a little more annoying than comforting today. Dean looked at him, that same scrutinizing stare that he got when he was worried.
Sam looked away. He couldn't take that look from this "new" Dean. Sam waited for Dean to break the silence, but he didn't. Sam involuntarily sighed, breaking the quiet. Sam felt he could do no right by Dean these days.
"What do you want to do, Dean?" Sam asked tentatively. Months ago he wouldn't had to ask. Months ago Dean was his partner, his only real friend and his brother. Months ago Dean didn't hate him. Months ago…
Sam didn't hear a response. He shifted his vision from his muddy shoes to Dean. Dean was right where he had last seen him, but a million miles away. Dean hadn't answered him and Sam was content to wait.
"We'll head back to the motel tonight. Get more information and head back here tomorrow." A simple, quick, and quiet answer came from Dean and if Sam had not been listening for it he would have missed it entirely. Sam returned to his seat in the Impala
and put his head in his hands. Would there ever be a day Dean didn't HATE him?
Any feedback is loved and appreciated!!!
