"They escaped!"
"Find them. Bring them back alive."
"Yes sir."
The sound of feet pattering against the floor and clicking from loaded guns echoed in the halls. Shallow breathes ignored as lighter feet left the well-guarded secret.
"This is it," one said softly.
"The beginning of a semi-new life."
"You guys didn't have to come if you didn't want to."
"There's nothing here."
"We won't leave you. We're just as curious as you are."
"We want to know."
"Then you better keep up."
The two grinned as they followed the first.
"That won't be a problem."
"We're just as smart as you are."
"Yeah, but you're insane," he said pointing at one, "and you specialize in arts and models using scales never really doing many simulations if you actually had to be involved."
"But you are our baby. Always acting and hoping for the best even if it isn't the most thought out plan in order to see if it saves someone."
With that they continued on in semi silence as they made their way on to find a new life or even discover the life they had lost.
"Think Vic will miss us?" one asked interrupting the silence. They all stopped for a moment.
"I'll get back in contact with him. Once we're a safer distance away from here."
"Smart."
"Won't he find us?"
"He will. But I have a feeling he won't hinder what we're doing."
"Whatever you say Wally."
The lead boy grinned back at the other two.
"Please. We've been doing simulations for as long as we can remember. Real life cannot be as difficult as what we've done."
There are pretenders among us. Geniuses who can become anyone they want.
"Well boys, you've finally done it," one man said sitting in a bare office. Everything stripped clean. Files neatly placed inside his suitcase. Files that he shouldn't have had but no one had thought he would even get. Files that would go to a higher power. He walked out of the room with his case, files, disks, everything but the desk itself in one arm, and a loaded pistol in the other. He walked casually down the halls as if he was just going for a cup of coffee and not stealing their secrets.
Even when a man in a suit turned the corner and threatened to shoot him, he merely gave him a look and pulled his own trigger shooting the man in the arm. He dropped his gun as he grabbed his bleeding wound. The man walked by as if nothing happened. His face was emotionless.
"To think that you would have even been hired…"
-.-
"I'm sorry sir. They're nowhere in the Centre," one brave bastard said before his boss. The man glared.
"I see. They will need to be found regardless. If they tell anyone of what our work entails or if they discover what it's been used for then we'll have a situation on our hands. I need those three back alive."
"Yes sir Mr. Luthor. Understood sir!" they said leaving the room as to avoid his inevitable wrath. The man snapped his pen in half in anger. Three bright minds in the bodies of easily manipulated children escaped from his grasp. For years he had had them under his control. It was entertaining to see the way their minds worked, almost like a demented clock. Once you thought you understood their mechanics something would surprise them. Each had a brain destined for greatness. Greatness that should go to him he thought bitterly.
No matter. Life was but a game of chess. And recently things had grown dull. A little new game of cat and mouse would liven things up a bit.
My family loves the pretender. I won't go crazy with stories as I don't know the pretender as well and I don't want to just copy the ideas. Mostly, they'll blend in while learning about their past. Can anyone guess who they are? One was a given. The other two… not so much.
