Drip! Drip! Drip!
The rain fell from the sky onto the pavement.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
Water droplets rolled off my umbrella.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I shivered against the cold wind blowing around me. The rain continued to fall.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I felt warm fabric being wrapped around my shoulders.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
Rain drops rolled down the outside of the jacket but the soft cotton on the inside stayed dry.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I put my arms through the sleeves and cast a grateful look up at the jacket's owner: Claire Stanfield.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
Water rolled out of his red hair and fell onto his now bare arms.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
He smiled and ducked under the umbrella with me. "You looked cold Chane."
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I simply nodded for a response.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
"Hey, could you give me the box inside the pocket of the jacket?" he asked.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I reached into the warm pocket. I felt around until my fingers brushed against the velvet covered box.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I handed him the small jewelry box and wondered what he was doing with it.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
My confusion turned to surprise when he dropped down onto one knee on the wet concrete sidewalk.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
He opened the box to reveal a golden ring with a large diamond on the band.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
"Chane, will you marry me?" he asked a smug grin on his face.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I stood silently for a moment, one hand tightly holding the umbrella.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
His smile slowly faded away. "Not this time, right? Yeah, I understand."
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I shook my head a few tears pricking at my eyes.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
He nodded and closed the box.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
Quickly, I fell to my knees in front of him and hugged him tightly.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
He almost lost his balance, surprised at my sudden show of affection.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I nodded my head, hoping to make him understand my acceptance of the proposal.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
"Is that a yes?" he asked.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I pulled out of the hug to take the box from his hand and opened it again. Then, I gave it back to him.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
He grinned again and took the ring out to slide it onto my left hand ring finger.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I hugged him again, dropping the umbrella.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
Neither of us moved as we were quickly soaked by the rain.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I looked up into his eyes, wanting desperately to tell him I loved him.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
His smug grin melted into a small sweet smile I never expected to see on his face.
Drip! Drip! Drip!
"I love you, too."
Drip! Drip! Drip!
I kissed him for the first time that rainy day, knowing for certain he was the one for me.
