DISCLAIMER - I wish I did, but obviously I don't own CSI, nor any of the characters, affiliated with the show. So instead, I give you this little insert to enjoy!

It wasn't until he was official gone, that she realized just how much she was going to miss him. A space now vacant in her heart, where once, he managed to take up without even realizing. A spot where, she didn't even know existed for the man, until now. She didn't know when it happened or even how it happened, just that it did at some point within the three and a half years of working together on the graveyard shift.

He was brilliant yet stubborn at the same time, and often times infuriated her, leaving her no other choice but to put her foot down and step up to him. The way he would look at her, confused and in shock by her actions, yet never defied her wishes when he so often did with others. Did he actually hold the much respect and admirable toward her to except defeat and walk away with his tail between his legs? How could she not see this before? Was she pretending to deny herself the true pleasures of a budding relationship, acting as though repulsed by his advancements, his little hints?

She thought she could read people by their actions, yet couldn't read his. To look back on it now, was it his gallant attempts, in an unfamiliar and inexperienced area, an attempt to win her heart? Why couldn't she see it? She could of been a little more patient and tolerant with him. She should have given him the benefit of the doubt, knowing that matters of the heart, emotions in general wasn't his forte, let alone expressing them verbally toward another human being. The fact that he tried, she should have noticed!

Now she sat, feeling more alone then ever before, in a job she did well. Everyone liked her, everyone respected her, everyone took the extra moment to chat with her, when they had the chance, but it wasn't the same anymore. The friendly bickering, and teasing was gone! It was hard for her to believe that work wasn't the same going in to. No light-hearted insults would be tossed around, no annoying breaks, no silly little mind games, no nothing! She even felt like her passion for her work wasn't like it once was. The challenge to be the best, was a challenge no more.

She looked up to where he once stood, now seeing a younger, a more nervous young man receiving instruction from the graveyard supervisor. Innocent and quiet, nodding in agreement as the older man spoke. The room lacked character, and the energy that once filled it. So it was more often than not, negative energy, but energy nonetheless. Full of life!

She let out a quiet sigh, resigning to the fact that she was indeed in love, and kicked herself for never accepting her true feelings. Instead, she pushed them aside, without once, ever telling him, and now he was gone!

Unable to accept her own demise, and wanting to talk, she reached for her mobile phone, and dialed a simple number in hope that the receiver of the telephone call would help her get through her most vulnerable moment.

The corners of her mouth slowly curled upward as she heard the one voice, she so desperately wanted to hear. The one voice that could help her.

"David..?"

A/N - For now, this is going as a 'completed' story, but it'll be marked as 'in progress,' just incase I get a decent idea on how to continue.
