It was raining, steadily, yet still, the blonde ran on. She was doing her best to get out of her head. She focused on her steps as they splashed against the pavement. Her breathing as it circulated through her lungs. Deep exhale in. Shallow, long exhale out, making sure to push each exhalation out on each down impact of her left foot against the pavement so as not to cause cramps.
As she ran she began to blur out her emotions.
Her week had been rough. She had felt all too much. She just need to get away from it. Anger at her parents for lying to her and for having done what they did all just to ensure she would be light. Pain because of their betrayal. The ache of having trusted them and not knowing if she could trust anyone… And now… Guilt and regret, because she had so easily taken a life when it had not even been necessary.
She hadn't known.
Emma shook her head. She had a to focus. She breathed in and out. Concentrating on the burn in her lungs rather than the ache in her chest, the salty burn along the edges of her eyes as tears began to fall. Would she become dark now?
Her vision had become so blurred she did not notice the figure approaching her. A figure wearing a familiar coat and sporting a rather bright yellow umbrella. Emma ran head long into the figure. They both would have fallen from the impact if not for the figure thrusting out a hand and a force of magic keeping them standing.
"Miss Swan, if you do not look-" Regina cut her sentence off midway. She instead reached for Emma's chin, lifting it to look her in the face.
Emma looked at her defiantly. Daring her to comment on her tears. To pity her, taunt her, tease her, anything really.
Regina didn't say anything. She wiped at the tears with her thumb then let go.
"Emma, if you are quite done barreling into people on rainy days, I could use some help with something." Regina told the blonde curtly.
Emma frowned at her, her radar was pinging but she went along with it anyway.
"Umm, sure. What is it?" Emma asked unsure.
"Henry has asked me to look for something, and I think you could help." Regina replied, pursing her lips. Emma's eyes fell to them. Regina noticed. She smiled.
Emma nodded. "Okay. I can help."
"Very good, Miss Swan." Regina replied. "Come with me then."
Regina held her yellow umbrella out invitingly. Emma eyed it for a moment. Where had the brunette gotten such an eye-catching object? She felt something tugging at her. It was her favorite color though. She smiled at Regina and stepped under its protection.
"Okay, where to?" Emma asked of the older woman.
Regina grinned. She knew Emma knew she had made up an excuse to get her out of the rain, but she was going to milk this anyway.
"Well, I think we might start at Granny's diner first, after that run you are probably hungry, and could use something to eat, then we'll go from there, what do you think?" Regina told the blonde.
Emma ducked her head. She wiped her face of any remaining tears. The reality was, around Regina, she didn't really feel upset anymore.
She turned to look up at the brunette with large eyes.
"Yeah, yeah I think I'd like that very much, Regina."
And with that, the two women set off into the rain, underneath the protection of the bright yellow umbrella
