Ashitaka strolled down the dirt roads the second time this day. He wanted to see if
anything had changed after he had gone.
About a month ago, a boar had attacked the village. Ashitaka had killed it before it had
reached the village, but it had not prevented the curse to fall upon him. He decided to set out to
find a cure for the curse. Many people thought he was gone forever especially Kaya his younger
sister.
There in the forest he met the Princess Mononoke, a wolf- girl who was waging war
against the invading human. The humans were there were lead by a head-strong Lady Eboshi.
They were to behead the Forest God's head. They succeeded, but they have not been able to claim
it, for Ashitaka and the Princess Mononoke, San gave the head back to the God. As the Forest
God died he took all the sickness away and Ashitaka was cured.
Ashitaka was happy to be home but he longed for another adventure... with San.
A shrill cry ended his thoughts. Instantly, several cries and shouts were echoed. Instinct
told him to follow the cries. People started to rush passed him screaming and he had to stop
running to avoid colliding into people. They were panicked but they would not stop to tell
Ashitaka what was going on.
"Ashitaka- nisan!"
"Kaya!" He saw her standing on a roof, beckoning him to follow her.
Ashitaka, spending most of the time in the forest during "The War", expertly climbed the
wooden house like a tree.
"Let's go,iso-ide! "she said urgently, grabbing his hand.
"What's going on? What's happening?" Ashitaka asked as he ran alongside Kaya.
"Dunno, something's happening near the south of the village, " quickly replied Kaya,
"You probably know what to do." She flashed a quick smile towards her brother. He smiled back.
They neared the south entrance of the village, he saw what was causing the trouble but
could not clearly see it. This made Ashitaka go faster, almost dragging Kaya by the hand.
Kaya let go of his hand, frightened that she might not make the jump across the roofs.
Ashitaka realized that the intruders were boars he had met during the time he was with San. He
knew it was unusual for the boars to appear in front of human presence. Something was wrong.
Suddenly he heard a woman scream and a man yell, "No! My daughter! Don't let them get
my daughter!" The man tried to push back the people that were holding him.
Ashitaka jumped down and landed into the dust.
