"Who are you?"
"I am the gatekeeper. I guard the gate."
"Yes I guessed that much, what's your name?"
"I am the gatekeeper. I guard the gate."
"What's behind the gate?"
"I am the gatekeeper – "
"You guard the gate, yes I know that!"
The Doctor approached the woman who stood in front of the glistening gate. She wore mucky jeans, a denim jacket and seemed far more like a stubborn teenager than a gatekeeper. He stood barely in inch away from her and stared. Quickly he swiped his sonic screwdriver over her and registered the readings it picked up.
"Sorry I've been asking the wrong questions. What are you?"
"I am the gate – "
"Yes, yes but what are you really? You look like a human but the screwdriver says robot." The woman opened her mouth. "Never mind, I know what you're going to say. Can you at least tell me what's behind the gate?" The woman said nothing. "Can you show me?"
A smile swept fleetingly across her face but it was gone in an instant. She turned to the huge golden gate behind her. If the Doctor hadn't known better he would say it was the entrance to heaven. But that was ridiculous. He wasn't dead.
She opened the gate with no apparent effort, despite its size.
"Thank you." he said and entered.
