She sat hysterically sobbing into her bed, the pillow muffling her strangled cries. Tears flooded her eyes and overflowed onto her already damp pillowcase. Her heart ached and she could have sworn she felt it tear in half. The dormitory was silent except for the heart-wrenching bawling of Hermione Granger.
She lifted her head cautiously to check and see if anyone had come into the room. They hadn't. A little squeak emitted from her dry lips and she choked back another sob. Why? It would never work out. It would never be so. He was with her.
As her eyes filled with another batch of fresh tears she furiously wiped them on the sleeve of her robe. She wouldn't cry for him. She couldn't.
It took all she had to stop the tears from flowing, but she apparently didn't have all too much. Again, water poured down her face like a broken faucet. She wildly tore herself from her warm bed and to her desk, where her hands shakily heaved a large dictionary open. Warm tears blurred her vision and she deliriously wiped them away, leafing through the book. Her breath came out in quivering gasps; she couldn't stop crying. Her arm continued to reach to her face as she found the word she was looking for.
Tears-
1. A drop of the saline, watery fluid continually secreted by the lacrimal glands between the surface of the eye and the eyelid, serving to moisten and lubricate these parts and keep them clear of foreign particles.
Why was she crying? Logical Hermione, the one who had all the answers, for once didn't know something.
Maybe she was sobbing because of what the definition said. But maybe it was something else.
Maybe it was because she had just seen Ron, the boy whom she loved, kiss another girl. And maybe, just maybe that was the reason for her tears.
AN: Very angsty, I know. Poor Hermione. I had this plot in my head for a while, but it took me a long time to sit at my computer and get to writing it out. Thanks to dictionary(dot)com for the definition.
