Hello, fellow Fanfictioners and visitors. This story is about Carly and Freddie (of course), but, in this story, they have never met. If you don't understand, don't worry. It's all explained in the summary, alternate summary, and preview. If I get enough good reviews, then I will post the full story.

Preface:

Flames. That's all he could see from every angle. Hot, orange tongues lapping greedily at the air. The heavy black smoke filled his lungs, choking him. With his mind and vision hazy he stumbled through the flames, searching for an exit.

He coughed up nothing but air, yet his throat burned with the bile that rose and fell inside him.

He could hear the hateful cries of the town's people outside, their voices filled with anger, fear, and hatred.

"Burn, creature!" a man yelled.

His tears evaporated in the heat as his home caved in around him. His shirt caught fire on his back and he tore it away from his body, but not before a long, angry burn creeped along his back. He winced but didn't stop moving.

Somehow, he'd found his way to the back door. He crashed through it, scorching pieced of wood meeting his body. He fell into the cool air and wet grass, gagging violently and finally receiving the full impact of his injuries.

He heard his name come from behind and turned around.

"Mom!" he cried.

He couldn't see her, for more wood fell and blocked the door. He jumped up and ran back to the house.

"Mom, hang on!" he yelled.

"No!" his mom said. "Run, get away from here!"

"Mom..." he said, his voice cracking.

"Go!"

He heard the mob coming around the other side.

"Go!" his mom repeated.

In defeat he tore himself away from the house and broke for the trees, phasing in the shadows. He stopped long enough to watch the foundation of his house give away. Oily tears spilled from his eyes as he ran on.
