"You can't do this, Helena," Barbara protested yet again. "Stop thinking with your anger and start thinking with your brain again. This is going to be all of Gotham's worst and biggest criminals in one area. You can not take them on by yourself and think you're just going to skip out of there without being hurt or - " She ignored the way the word hanging heavily between them choked her and plunged determinedly onward, " - or worse. It's impossible!"
"I'm not by myself," Helena reminded her patiently. "I've got Dinah - "
"She's a kid."
"And I've got you right here in my ear," Helena continued, ignoring Barbara's dismissal of the sidekick she hadn't wanted at first. She tapped the comm in her ear. "You'll be with me every step of the way, Barb. You can dictate my every move."
"Then let me dictate now! Stay!"
Helena's eyes flashed, and for a moment, Barbara was reminded of just how much she did look like her mother. "We both know that's not going to happen." She silenced the redhead's continued protest by quickly covering her open mouth with her own. Her tongue twisted around hers, urging hers to slide back into her own mouth, while her hands reached out and almost yanked her out of her chair in their urgency to pull her to her. She kept kissing her like that for at least five minutes, and when she lifted her mouth, Barbara was breathless, as she'd known she would be when she was done.
But then, again, Helena thought, she was never done with Barbara. She never would be done with the woman she loved, and that was exactly why she would make it back to her tonight. Huntress winked down at her. "Be with me," she commanded, once more tapping the comm, "and be waiting up for me so we can finish this." Then, she was gone, leaving Barbara to slam her desk and reach out for her phone, hoping that some other superhero would still be there to answer her call.
The End
