Genre: Friendship/Remembrance
Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts or the 4th of July!
I just felt like I wanted to do something to honor this day, seeing as how we got our freedom on it. So, yeah, God Bless America!
4th of July
Roxas sat on the hill, not exactly sure what his two friends had in mind for this evening. He had no clue why Demyx and Axel had drug him out here to the middle of nowhere and when Axel walked over, Roxas demanded an answer. "Axel… Where are we?" Axel just smirked his trademark smirk and sat down next to Roxas, digging through the picnic basket. "You'll see as soon as the sun sets." The redhead said and Roxas decided to leave it at that.
Axel pulled out two sea salt ice cream and handed one to Roxas. And that's when the sun set and all the lights went on down in the amphitheater that they were sitting above. Roxas couldn't quite see the person down there but recognized him immediately, probably due to the blue sitar the person was carrying. The amphitheater was filled with people all staring at him and as gentle sitar music filled the air, Roxas didn't even doubt the reason.
But the real surprise was when Demyx started singing along with the melody, "O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, for purple mountain majesties, above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!" Roxas looked at Axel for some idea on what exactly was going on.
Axel smiled, "This was his Somebody's' world. And today is the Independence Day for his country. Demyx told me he felt that he had to pay homage to the United States. It's not an odd thing to do on this date for most people anyway." He laid back, hands behind his head, watching the sky as the fireworks started. It was a symphony of reds and blues and whites, much like the music coming from Demyx's very soul.
Roxas had never seen fireworks before or heard this song but in that very instance, he thought he might understand why Demyx felt that he had to do this. Maybe it was like their loyalty to the Organization. Perhaps, Demyx still felt he had to be loyal to this country. All in all, he decided, he liked the 4th of July very much.
