Stamina: Smash Brothers Survivor!

By Charismatic Enigma

Prologue: The Past Year

The past year has been…different. All of it started with the announcement of the new tournament. The veterans were all used to it, but those who came in for the second tournament, Melee, weren't prepared. Not to mention, the transition from the first tournament, simply called Smash, to Melee was a simple one. There was expansion, a few newcomers…It was all for the better. But this time feels different. This time…many people lost their friends. For the first time, people were subtracted from the equation, rather than added. It was almost more. The so-called "clones" were frowned upon by the higher ups. Even people like Falco, and Luigi, who preformed well in the tournament, were asked to step up their game and fighting style, or risk being sent home. Some of them didn't make the cut. Some were seen simply as useless, like Dr. Mario or Pichu. Others, like Mewtwo and Roy, just couldn't make the cut, and were replaced by newer and more popular characters.

It all began around that time Master Hand held that Mini-Van competition. All the renovation was going on, and the anticipation for the third tournament, Brawl, was heightening with each passing day. Little did we know, some of our closest friends would have to make way for the newcomers. They didn't tell the veterans. Oh, those who were leaving knew, but they weren't saying anything. They knew how the vets would feel. They didn't want to have to face them with it. While most welcomed the newcomers with open arms, some were still bitter. Some of them openly (or secretly) resented them. And who knows who those replaced few felt?

The third tournament was a great success. For the first time, a newcomer took first place. Meta Knight defeated Fox, the previous year's champion, in an intense final battle. It was one of the closest fights in the history of the Smash tournaments, and will be remember for years to come. There many were surprises, as quite a few who were expected to do well faltered, and some who were thought to be weak and inferior who shone. Marth, who was the runner up in the Melee tournament, fell in the first round to Yoshi, who was usually considered a minor threat, and not really taken seriously. Jigglypuff made it all the way to the Semi-Finals before finally being taken down by the upstart Meta Knight, who was not only winning his matches, but winning them by far and with style.

Now, its a couple months later, and all the buzz, hype and excitement have begun to wear off a bit. The fighters live in the (twice) newly remolded and expanded Smash Mansion, courtesy of Samus blowing most of it up last year, during that Mini-Van competition. Now, Master Hand is plotting various new games and contest for the Smashers to compete in. Of course there are still tournaments, but endless fighting is tiresome, and can get boring if overdone. Originally he planned for another Mini-Van game, but was "aggressively persuaded" not to by Samus. He had one other idea…It was overdone…cliché…and yet so promising, that it just had to be tried.

Survivor. Smash Brothers style.

A/N: Hey everybody, CE here. It's been almost a year since I finished Two Weeks in a Mini-Van, and now I'm back again, this time with a different game. Yeah, it's been done to death but, dammit…I want to do it. Because I feel like I can make it interesting enough to be worth more than the leagues of these that you see. I'm reluctant to make any promises about when I'll update this or how frequently, but all I know is right now, a muse is with me, so while she's still here I'm going to write as much as I can. Hopefully this one doesn't take three years! Thanks for reading! Remember, reviews are always a good motivator! ;)
