Donnie stared at the pizza before him. He'd never seen quite like it and wasn't at all sure what he should do with it. He picked it up carefully, even more so in concern for its serving "tray" than for the pizza itself, and examined it more closely while his brother stood anxiously nearby, twisting his green hands behind his shell.
"D'you like it?" Mikey asked hopefully.
The pizza didn't have chocolate hearts, bugs, anchovies, or anything else as disgusting to be found on a pizza, but still, Donnie couldn't stop staring at it. He almost asked his sweetheart what it was, but he knew what it was. He puzzled over it, frowning deeply, and Mikey's face and heart both fell. "You don't like it," he stated.
"No . . . " Donnie assured, finally finding his voice. "I've just never quite seen anything like it."
"I make you a heart pizza every year."
"Yes," Don agreed, nodding slowly, "indeed, you do, but you've never given me one quite like this before, Mikey."
"You always say there's a first time for everything."
"There is." He set the heart-shaped pizza down, still being extremely careful for its tray and the other items set upon the actual pizza itself and lifted his face to look directly up into his concerned brother's eyes. "It's a very unique idea, sweetheart," he spoke encouragingly. "I just hope the tomato sauce did not harm the hardware."
"Oh!" If it were possible, Mikey suddenly looked even more worried. "I didn't think about that," he admitted. Then he grinned as he said confidently, "But even if it does, I'm sure you can fix it."
That was all he needed, Donatello thought with a silent groan: A present that he had to fix before he could use it. Still, his beloved's heart was in the right place, as it always was. He stood and wrapped his arms around his partner's shell. "I'm sure you're right," he said with a grin, "and it was a terrific idea. How did you know I wanted a new tuber nuclear cybernetic android console?"
"I do pay attention," Mikey said, his proud smile turning a little shy as he ran his twisting, green toes over the cement beneath their feet, "even when you think I'm not, to all your techno babbling. I don't even know what it is," he admitted, his grin growing, "but that's not important. What's important is that you wanted it," he shrugged, "so I got it."
"That, darling, is just one of the million reasons why I love you." Donatello started to lean in closer to Mikey, but Mikey's head popped up with a brighter smile.
"Really? What are the others?"
"Let me show you," Donnie murmured and kissed him long and deep. Their valentines for each other were as unique and different as they were. Mikey would find the entire run of the first edition of his favorite comic book underneath his pillow and bed covers later that evening, but for now, the turtles celebrated the love that only grew stronger because of all of their differences and similarities alike.
The End
