Truth be told this oneshot came from an English essay on journeys-similar principle to a GS oneshot I did, but different essay. Anyway, this is based on the ending of StarCraft Ghost: Nova (the actual ending, not the epilogue scene with the KLF). True, Nova is probably OOC in this, but based on her last comment (which features in this also), there's a hint that she may not have been comitted to the mind wipe as her original motivations in training implied. If/when StarCraft: Ghost is released in whatever form (based on interviewes Blizzard is seemingly deddicatd to doing so but the format is in debate) we may get insight, but until then, I put this together.
So um, enjoy. Or not.
Disclaimer: Blizzard owns StarCraft and all its characters.

It was said once in my previous life that a journey becomes apparent after it has been completed, that benchmarks are formed that allow reference for a person to appreciate what life was like before and after it. January 8th, 2500 would have to be one of them…the day my life changed, along with more than 300 lives ending simultaneously. July 17th of that same year would have to be another, thousands of lives ending and millions changing forever.
Appropriate that death always follows me, given my current circumstances…
Past experiences can shape the outlook of the future. With the benefit of hindsight, one can understand what may have been in error, gaining understanding as to what could be done to prevent the erroneous actions from being repeated in the future (I'm sure the supporters of the late Terran Confederacy would be fond of doing that). But what happens if the benchmarks are erased? What happens to that experience? Don't our memories define us?
I never gave thought to this back on Ursa and I doubt Sergeant Hartley would have allowed it. But now…
Peters' betrayal of my family and the holocaust that followed…
The horror of the Gutter and its testament to the Confederacy's corruption…
Fagin's depravity and Ralian's desperation…
The zerg invasion of Tarsonis…
Kelerchian and the suicide mission that Mengsk sent him on…
All those memories, those moments…will be lost, in time. Like…tears…in the rain…
Once again hindsight has come to haunt an individual, an individual currently en route to Ursa to receive a mind wipe. It was something I've wanted for 2.5 years, but now that it's before me…When looking forward and looking back are one and the same, and considering that I'll soon be unable to do either, where does that leave me? We were one instructed that a soldier is meant to exist in the moment, but does that mean that the past and future have to be erased by default?
It doesn't matter really. I already know the answer, one which I reached hours ago…
"Nadaner is dead- and soon, for all intents and purposes, I will be, too."
