It broke my heart to watch you fall to your knees and crying. Your body; so fragile and so weak. He was my best friend and you, you were the lover I never had. The one I never got to hold. You deserved so much more, Ashley. You really did. The day I saw you by the corridor after your match, when he pushed you to the wall, tell you he didn't love you anymore - it angered me, more than you know.
I don't know why you chose Jeff over me. Maybe you found him more attractive. The reason, I will never know. I remember so clearly when you bounced your way over to me and told me how happy you were that Jeff asked you out. You were so smitten. Your beautiful face was almost glowing from all that happiness. When you walked away … the feeling of hurt was tremendous. Anybody would rather go out with a Hardy brother than me. I was just the one "hanging out" with the Hardys.
The day you started dating him, you hung out with us consistently. Your laugh could always be heard. Slowly, your laugh faded to a distance and all I could ever hear out of you were small sobs in between words. Its been far too often that I would get a call from you asking if I could come over. I always did. You were my priority when in reality, you should have been Jeff's. "Why are you so good to me?", you asked me the first time I came over. I would only whisper to myself. Because I love you.
I was a comfort zone. I was nothing more than just that. I was a friend, or in your words, a "good friend". You are suffering in his hands, Ashley! Why can't you just realize that you're so much better than this? You're slowly falling apart and despite him telling you he no longer loves you, you still hang on. You keep waiting. Why, Ash, why?
I picked you up off the floor and caressed your face. A small smile formed on your face and the next few words broke my heart. "I miss him, Shannon." I smiled weakly and gave you a hug. And I finally realized something I should have all along. You, will never love me.
