Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter….kay, cool
A/N: This just popped into my head while I should have been doing French homework, memorizing a monologue, and reading To Kill A Mockingbird for English. Ew…actually TKM isn't that bad of a book…..Anyway, onto the story now:
Harry had given this a lot of thought, and he had made his decision. So, on the morning the Potters were supposed to go to Diagon Alley to get James' things for Hogwarts, Harry called his oldest son into his room.
They sat on the bed, and Harry began, "Son, before I give you a full explanation of why we are sitting here, I need you to understand one thing."
"Sure, dad," James said, confused.
"What I am about to give you is extremely important to me, as it was my dad's." James' eyes widened. "It also is very rare and priceless. So, if I give it to you, you have to promise to be extremely careful with it, as it means a lot to the family."
"Yes, dad. I will guard whatever it is with my life," James said, in amazement that his dad trusted him this much.
"You have probably heard stories involving my invisibility cloak." Harry paused while James nodded. "Well, it came to me by way of Albus Dumbledore, in the middle of my first year. It allowed Uncle Ron, Aunt Hermione, and I to go on many adventures, and break all sorts of rules." Harry paused, thinking of all the wonderful times they had with the cloak. "I have decided to give it to you."
"Let me get this straight. You want me to be 'bad' and get into trouble?" James asked, half excited half confused.
"Yeah," Harry replied. "I know you will want to explore Hogwarts, or meet a girl, at night. This way, you will get in less trouble. My headmaster gave it to me, most likely with the same thoughts."
James couldn't believe his luck.
"But, if you get caught too many times, I'll take it back. You have to work hard at school, or Aunt Hermione will have your head." Harry laughed, remembering how she used to get on him and Ron about homework. "And, I fully expect you to be the second first year to be a seeker, for whichever house you get in."
"Dad," James voiced his fears for the first time. "What if I get into Slytherin?"
"Then you will be the first all good Slytherin, but you will not be the first great Slytherin."
James looked confused, "What?"
"Severus Snape was a mostly good Slytherin, but no matter which side he was on, he was a great wizard. Tom Riddle could have done many amazing things, if he had not turned power hungry."
"Oh," James said. He smiled, as he watched his father disappear under the invisibility cloak. Harry ran around the room and made things move. Then, to James' surprise, he whacked James on the back.
Harry took off the cloak, smiled, and said "you turn," as he passed on the cloak.
A/N: I may do a sequel, but I am not sure. Please review
So, a reviewer (yellow14) alerted me that I had confused the order in which James and Albus were born. In order for the possible sequel to work, I need to switch it. So, this is the updated version, featuring James, instead of Albus.
