Marlin is trying to show Dory some adult fun. He knows that sometimes talking to adults isn't all that fun sometimes, but Dory is an adult and should be treated as such. He noticed that she really loves jokes. So he starts telling her some jokes making her laugh.
"Oh I have another one ready for it?" asks Marlin, smiling
"Okay" says Dory, laughing
He starts telling her about the sea mollusk joke that he messed up a few times, but now he remembers it so he tells her. Making her laugh harder and harder until she has hiccups.
"Dory careful your getting hiccups." says Marlin
"Its okay *hiccup* they will go away soon. *hiccup* I have gotten them before, at least I think I did." says Dory hiccuping again
"Alright" says Marlin
So they swim on and Marlin shows her how chores could be fun and they end up dancing while Dory hiccups the whole time.
"Uh oh they aren't going away." says Dory
She isn't all that worried about that, but she finds it weird.
"Lets try some tricks to get rid of them." says Marlin
"Okay! " says Dory
"Try holding your breath for a minute. I will do it with you." says Marlin
She nods and follows his lead holding her breath. They hold it for a whole sixty seconds and then let out a long breath.
"Did it work?" asks Marlin
She starts hiccuping again a long time this time.
"That would be no." says Marlin
"Well lets not give up *hiccup* Lets try something else." says Dory
"Okay oh, wait there" says Marlin
"Alright." says Dory
He swims away and hides knowing she will get bored and start looking. Which is exactly what happens and when she swims past him while she is hiccuping, he jumps up and yells boo scaring her.
"Ahhh!" says Dory, "Why did you do that? *hiccup*"
"Well I was trying to scare your hiccups away." says Marlin
"Ooo did it *hiccup*, work?" asks Dory
"No." says Marlin
"Aw *hiccup* "says Dory
"Its okay, I have a couple more tricks." says Marlin
"Alright. Like what?" asks Dory
"Oh well first one is covering your mouth for a few minutes." says Marlin
So they try that swimming with their tail around heading back, Nemo was left with Jenny and Charlie and they are both sure he is ready to go home by now. It works for a little bit but then Dory hiccups again.
"This one is a little more fun." says Marlin
"Ooo fun, what exactly?" asks Dory
"Well you flip upside down and swim backwards while holding your breath." says Marlin
"That does sound like fun! Lets do it!" says Dory
Marlin smiles and joins her, all the way to Jenny and Charlie's where they meet up with Nemo. Nemo sees this and laughs watching his father and Dory swim upside down. They flip over before they get a headache.
"Hi Nemo!" says Dory, "Ooo no hiccups! It worked! Haha!"
"Is that why you were upside down dear?" asks Jenny
"Marlin was helping me with my hiccups." says Dory
Marlin rubs his head sheepishly.
"Isnt that so?" asks Charlie, with a smile
"Well I knew a few tricks so tried to help after they didn't go away after a few minutes." says Marlin
"Well whatever you two did worked." says Charlie
"Yeah i haven't heard Dory hiccup since you two came up here." says Nemo
"Really? Yay!" says Dory
They smile at that happily, and after thanking Charlie and jenny for babysitting they start home where Nemo tells Dory and Marlin about their day.
